Nifty jumps up 26.45 pointsThe National Stock Exchange witnessed an upbeat sentiment today with the pivotals firming up following better buying interest. Mirroring the trend, the NSE-50 index registered a gain of 26.45 points to 995.05 points against its previous close of 968.60 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index also rose by 13.65 points to 816.60 from 802.95 points. The Midcap index also improved by 50.65 points to 1381.90 from its previous close of 1331.25 points. The total turnover involving 72.4 million shares in 212,238 trades was Rs 16.1 billion, while a total 121 securities hit their price bands today, 515 securities advanced, 462 declined and 95 remained unchanged. Tobacco giant ITC continued to remain on the top with Rs 364.49 million, followed by Satyam Comp Rs 2 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.4 billion, Reliance Rs 1.1 billion, Zee Tele Rs 995.5 million, BPL Rs 937 million, ACC Rs 407.4 million, Tisco Rs 375.7 million, Telco Rs 345 million, Tata Tea Rs 337.4 million, ICICI Rs 301.4 million, and Hind Lever Rs 246 million. The other actively traded counters included Castrol Rs 221 million, Larsen and Toubro Rs 215.9 million, Sterlite Rs 152.3 million, Wipro Rs 147.7 million, Wart Diesel Rs 146.2 million, Silverline Rs 132.1 million, MTNL Rs 91 million, Rolta Rs 89.7 million and BHEL Rs 85.4 million. Among the top gainers were Cochin Ref, Ponds, Hind Petro, Glaxo and BPCL while top losers included EI Hotel, TVS Suzuki, MRTL, Tata Power and Reliance. UNI |
