FIIs' selling spree unabated; Sensex loses 86 points, 3085.17A downward trend continued on the country's premier bourse, Bombay Stock Exchange on the opening day of current settlement on hectic selling pressure from the foreign institutional investors. Reflecting the downtrend, the BSE Sensitive Index or Sensex fell by 86.13 points to 3085.17 points as against the previous week's close of 3171.30 points. The broad-based BSE National Index came to 1362.45 points over the last trading day's close of 1389.21 points, losing 34.40 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices also declined by 06.62 and 02.68 points to 313.18 and 122.51 points as compared to the previous close of 319.80 and 125.19 points respectively. On the contrary, the domestic institutions mainly Unit Trust of India and State Bank of India purchased sizeable amount of select shares to arrest further downfall in the Sensex, leading brokers said. Uncertain political situation in some parts of the country demoralised the sentiment of FIIs investors which affected the capital market too, brokers added. The total turnover on the screen-based trading system was Rs 8.13 billion involving 32.8 million shares in 100.475 trades. The Indian tobocco giant ITC has registered highest turnover of Rs 1.81 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 1.43 billion, SBI Rs 800.3 million, Reliance Rs 509.1 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 466.2 million and L&T Rs 239.8 million. Among the top gainers were Castrol (Rs 192.8 million), Tata Tea (Rs 187.4 million), Telco (Rs 162.8 million), Infosys Technology (Rs 143.3 million), ACC (Rs 139.5 million), BHEL (Rs 132.1 million), Tisco (Rs 130.2 million), Pentafour Software (Rs 127.5 million), MTNL (Rs 120.1 million). Good transactions were observed at Bata India (Rs 17.8 million), Wipro (Rs 15.7 million), Silverline Industries (Rs 13.6 million), Cipla (Rs 11.1 million), VSNL (Rs 10.1 million), Software Solutions (Rs 860,000), HCL Infosys Technology (Rs 810,000) at 'B1' counters.
