NSE-50 Index

Nifty drops 5.55 points

Pivotals declined further following speculative selling pressure from institutional investors in a dull trading on the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the bearish trend, the NSE-50 opened at 992.20 points, touched the day's high of 992.45 and day's low of 984.55 points and finally closed at 986.80 points, showing a net loss of 5.55 points over the previous close of 992.35 points.

Similarly, the Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index closed lower by 3.70 points to 883.40 points as against the previous close of 887.10 points. The Midcap index also drifted lower by 9.00 points to 1118.60 points over the previous close of 1127.60 points.

The total turnover on the NSE declined by Rs 179.6 million to Rs 9.9 billion from yesterday's turnover of Rs 10.1 billion.

Tobacco giant ITC stood first in the list of turnover by registering the highest business volume of Rs 3.1 billion, followed by State Bank of India Rs 1.3 billion, Castrol Rs 1.2 million, Tata Tea Rs 1 billion and Reliance Rs 552.1 million.

Hectic activity was also observed at the other counters like ACC Rs 377.8 million, TELCO Rs 279.7 million, MTNL Rs 194 million, Hind Lever Rs 188.5 million, L and T Rs 148.6 million, TISCO Rs 133.7 million, Corp Bank Rs 114.7 million, BHEL Rs 96.9 million, Ranbaxy Rs 94.2 million, Satyam Comp Rs 94 million, ICICI Rs 90.6 million, LML Rs 83.9 million, BPL Rs 79.3 million, Nestle Rs 75.9 million, BSES Rs 60.6 million, Inger Rand Rs 51.4 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 51 million, Glaxo Rs 35.6 million, Infosys Tech Rs 34.3 million and IPCL Rs 33.4 million.

ABB, ACC, HDFC, Cochin Refinery and BSES were the major gainers during the day. Glaxo, HPCL, IPCL, Arvind Mills and Hindalco were the prominent losers on the NSE today.
