NSE-50 Index

Nifty rises 8.15 points

Speculative buying interest from domestic and foreign institutional investors and rise in stocks in Southeast and East Asia had an upward impact on the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

The market noticed a marginal improvement and there was a gradual rise in share prices. Fiftyone scrips hit their price bands today.

The NSE-50 index (Nifty) opened at 990.05 points, saw a high of 999.80 points, a low of 987.10 points, and closed at 997.80 points as compared to its previous close of 989.65 points, netting a gain of 8.15 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index (Defty) rose by 8.95 points to 860.15 points from 851.20 points yesterday. The Midcap index firmed up by 7.25 points to 1146.90 points from 1139.65 points, showing a rise of 7.25 points.

ITC topped the turnover list with Rs 3.9 billion followed by SBI (Rs 2.7 million), Castrol (Rs 1 billion), Tata Tea (Rs 1 billion), TELCO (Rs 548.7 million), Reliance (Rs 543.1 million), MTNL ( Rs 518.5 million), TISCO (Rs 234.6 million), Corp Bank (Rs 210.2 million), HLL (Rs 205.3 million), BHEL (Rs 172.8 million), ACC (Rs 160.1 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 124.3 million), L&T (Rs 88.2 million), ICICI (Rs 68.4 million), HDFC (Rs 64.8 million), SBI (Rs 52.6 million), Rel Petro (Rs 52.4 million), BPL (Rs Rs 51.8 million), Raasi Cem (Rs 51.2 million), BSES (Rs 47.8 million), IPCL (Rs 45.7 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 38.8 million), TVS (Rs 38.7 million) and Glaxo (Rs 37.7 million).

The gainers were HDFC Bank, SBI, GE Shipping, ABB and Rel Petro while the losers were M&M, Arvind Mills, Ind Hotels, Ashok Leyland and HPCL.
