Nifty down by 1.55 pointsSelling pressure by foreign institutional investors and domestic institutional investors pulled the Nifty marginally at the National Stock Exchange today. The nifty opened at 999.45 points, witnessed a high of 1019.85 points and a low of 990.75 points, and finally closed at 997.55 points showing a net loss of 1.55 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) ended lower by 6.75 points at 853.95 points as against the previous close of 861.05 points, exhibiting a decline of 6.75 points. The Midcap index closed at 1142.15 points, as against the last close of 1130.75 points, showing a loss of 11.40 points. The market was initially buoyant, however, prices of pivotals gradually declined during the course of the day. Thirtyeight securities hit their price today. ITC topped the turnover list with Rs 722.42 million, followed by Tata Tea (Rs 1.7 billion), SBI (1.2 billion), Reliance (1.1 billion), TELCO (Rs 576.4 million), Castrol (Rs 437.5 million), HLL (Rs 369.6 million), MTNL (286.7 million), TISCO (Rs 274.8 million), ACC (Rs 216.4 million), L and T (Rs 136 million), BHEL (Rs 91.2 million), Corp Bank (Rs 67.1 million), ICICI (Rs 61.5 million), Bajaj (Rs 59.1 million), Colgate (Rs 54 million), IPCL (Rs 39.3 million), BPL (Rs 37.3 million), Glaxo (Rs 32.4 million), Ingersand (Rs 32.1 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 28.7 million), Infosys (Rs 26.3 million), ICICI-Moneybuy (Rs 24.8 million) and Rel Petro (Rs 24.7 million). The top gainers were Cochin Ref, Hindalco, Thermax, GE Shipping and MRPL which rose by 4.71, 3.87, 3.76, 3.50 and 2.87 per cent. The losers were IDBI, TELCO, Arvind Mills, Reliance and Ind Hotels which eased by 7.10, 6.52, 3.44, 1.93 and 1.83 per cent. UNI |
