Nifty loses 1.55 points

The Nifty or NSE-50 index opened at 977.55, touched the day's high of 980.75 and low of 973.10 before closing at 976.10 points, showing a net loss of 1.55 points as compared to its previous close of 977.65 points.

The Defty or Dollar NSE-50 index finished at 872.90 points, decreasing 2.70 points over the previous close of 875.60 points. The Midcap index also declined by 6.55 to 1074.80 points as compared to its previous close of 1081.35 points.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 9.4 billion involving 35.5 million shares and the number of trades was 116,105.

The top gainers were TELCO, Orient Bank, M&M, EI Hotel and Ponds while the losers were HPCL, Grasim, Castrol, Indogulf and Cochin Ref.

ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 3 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.4 billion, Castrol Rs 738.4 million, TELCO Rs 735.8 million, Reliance Rs 609.2 million, LML Rs 424.9 million, SBI-N Rs 416 million, Hind Lever Rs 370.4 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 278.4 million, ACC Rs 165 million, MTNL Rs 147.4 million, TISCO Rs 126.9 million, Aptech Rs 116.7 million, Ponds Rs 80.3 million, L&T Rs 59.6 million, BPL Rs 37.9 million, BHEL Rs 32.4 million, Sterlite Rs 29.4 million, Corp Bank Rs 28.7 million, BSES Rs 20.2 million, Smithkl Pha Rs 18.9 million, Goodricke Rs 18.6 million, Glaxo Rs 18.5 million and Colgate Rs 16.3 million.
