Sensex gains 9.22 pointsPivotals closed further higher on the Bombay Stock Exchange at the last day of current trading settlement today.According to marketmen, the market player, foreign institutional investors, sold shares of ITC while it reportedly made purchases in Hind Lever scrips.Speculative buying was witnessed in some heavy weighted counters which pushed the Sensex moderately higher, they said. Being the last day of trading cycle, most of the operators were busy in squaring their positions, marketmen added. Mirroring the trend, the BSE Sensitive index opened at 3367.77 points, touched the day's high of 3374.04 and fell to touch the day's low of 3338.09, and finally firmed up to close at 3366.70, netting a moderate gain of 9.22 points over the previous close of 3357.48 points. The broadbased BSE-100 index gained by 0.90 points to 1448.88 as against the previous close of 1447.98 points. However, the BSE-200 and Dollex indices closed lower by 0.48 and 0.20 points to 321.69 and 138.22 points as against the previous close of 322.17 and 138.42 points respectively. Total turnover on the BSE reported during the day was Rs 8.9 billion. ITC topped the list of turnover by registering the highest business volume of Rs 2.9 billion, followed by Tata Tea 1.1 billion, Castrol Rs 939.8 million, State Bank Rs 758.8 million and Bajaj Auto Rs 441.7 million. Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like Reliance Rs 347.3 million, TELCO Rs 243.8 million, MTNL Rs 206.4 million, BHEL Rs 67.7 million, TISCO Rs 64 million, ACC Rs 62.5 million, L and T Rs 46.3 million, Raymond Rs 45 million and Glaxo Rs 41.5 million. Good transactions were witnessed at some counters in B1 group like Novartis, Corporation, Bata India, Hitech Drill, Infosys Tech , HDFC Bank, LML, Reliance Pet, Indian Alum, Aptech Ltd, Ingersoll, Satyam Comp, Credit Rati, Asian Hotels and Cipla.
