ACC, Tisco, pharma, infotech shares lead the rally; Sensex recovers a little, up nine points, 2936.92

Pivotals recovered marginally on buying support from foreign institutional investors coupled with short-covering by local operators at the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the trend, the 30-scrip BSE Sensex opened at 2906.47 points, touched the day's high of 2936.92 points, fell to the day's low of 2887.31 points but recovered smartly to close at 2936.92 points, showing a net gain of 9.44 points from the previous close of 2927.40 points.

The broad-based BSE-100 index advanced by 5.47 points to 1300.36 points from the previous close of 1294.89 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices also rose by 1.01 and 0.45 points to 301.07 and 117.80 points as against the previous close of 300.06 and 117.35 points.

According to leading BSE brokers, the cement giant ACC and steel leader Tisco reported moderate gains on report of increase in demand of steel and cement in the market. Pharma and software shares staged a moderate recovery on good buying supprt. The FIIs have reportedly made purchases in Telco, Satyam and Pentafour scrips, they said.

Total turnover on the BOLT system reported during the day was Rs 10.95 billion.

Satyam Computer posted highest turnover of Rs 2.48 billion, followed by ITC Rs 1.43 billion, Telco Rs 751.2 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 716.2 million and Reliance Rs 354 million.

Other actively traded scrips were SBI Rs 319.9 million, Raymond Wool Rs (242.1 million), Tisco (Rs 240.7 million), ACC (Rs 218.2 million), Castrol (Rs 215.7 million), Glaxo (Rs 198.7 million), HDFC (Rs 138.2 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 118.7 million) and Hindustan Lever (Rs 109.9 million).
