IndusInd, MCM form JV for music channel for southeast AsiaMCM International and IndusInd Communications Limited have announced a 50:50 joint venture to launch a western music channel over the Indian subcontinent. MCM -- the International Music Channel will be transmitted free to more than six million households all over southeast Asia, from the Philippines to Japan and down to Indonesia from the beginning of 1999. MCM was born in France in 1989 with the idea of creating a western music channel because of the richness of musical creations in Europe and developing an important alternative choice for overseas viewers. Besides music, the programs designed by MCM will cater to the needs of young Asians. The Mauritius-based IndusInd Communications, a Hinduja group company, is an investor in media assets with a 49 per cent holding in India's largest ground cable network, IN-Cablenet, with close to three million households operating in nine cities in India. The venture assures MCM with preferential carriage in three million households in India from day one. Among the programmes which MCM promises to telecast round-the-clock are dance music, pop, rock, soul, hard rock, music videos, exclusive interviews, shows, concerts, shootings and rockumentaries.
