HAL to tie up with French co to make 50-seater aircraft for Indian AirlinesThe public sector Hindustan Aeronauticals Limited in Bangalore in collaboration with France-based ATR Aviation Company, will develop 50-seater passenger aircraft for Indian Airlines soon. This was stated by P Sengupta, secretary, department of defence production and supplies. He said the HAL-ATR combine had bagged the contract to supply six aircraft to Indian Airlines against a stiff global competition, following a tender floated by the airlines. He said the United States' sanctions against India did not have any effect on "Aero India-98", the mega aviation event starting in Bangalore tomorrow. Major US aviation firms AlliedSignal and Boeing would participate in the show. Sengupta said 70 per cent of the defence components were produced indigenously. HAL chairman Dr Kishandas Nair said a major chunk of the defence components wanted by the Indian Air Force was being produced by HAL. UNI |
