Fresh FI buying lifts Sensex up 45 points, 2849.82

FIIs bought shares of Glaxo and ITC, while domestic institutions purchased select scrips like Reliance, Tisco, Telco and Dr Reddy's, brokers said.

The BSE-30 Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened at 2804.87, witnessed a high and low of 2849.82 and 2791.98 respectively and ended at 2849.82 points as against the previous closing of 2804.46, showing a net gain of 45.36 points today.

The BSE-100 index closed 16.16 points higher at 1266.49 points against the previous close of 1250.33 points. The BSE-200 index ended 2.92 points higher at 294.10 points and the Dollex index edged up by 1.20 points to 115.10 points.

The total turnover, involving 43.3 million shares and in 113,812 trades, was Rs 102.98 billion. Out of 7,284 listed securities, 1,422 scrips were involved in today's trading.

ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.88 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 1.62 billion, SBI Rs 703.5 million, Reliance Rs 544.4 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 468.9 million, Telco Rs 385.5 million, Pentafour Software Rs 267.4 million, ACC Rs 226.2 million, Glaxo India Rs 221 million, Tisco 220.4 million, Castrol Rs 175.1 million, Tata Tea Rs 155 million, Infosys Tech Rs 132.3 million, Dr Reddy's Rs 125.1 million and L&T Rs 89.4 cr.

ACC improved to Rs 837.50 from Rs 827.25, Bajaj Auto to Rs 561 from Rs 548.25, Glaxo to Rs 579.75 from Rs 556, ITC to Rs 705 from Rs 672.25, Reliance to Rs 113.30 from Rs 111.80 and Tisco to Rs 94.25 from Rs 90.50.
