Insurance Bill to be introduced next week, confirms KhuranaThe government will introduce the Insurance Regulatory Authority Bill in Parliament next week, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana announced today. Khurana said the bill would be introduced in Parliament on Monday or Tuesday. There would be a discussion on the price rise in the Lok Sabha tomorrow under rule 193, according to a decision of the Business Advisory Committee. Earlier in the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party put up a brave show of unity by saying that criticism in certain quarters of the party was part of the ''ongoing debate'' within the party on the controversial Insurance Regulatory Authority Bill. As long as the bill is not introduced, members are free to air their views. But once the bill is introduced, the party will stand behind the government like a rock, BJP vice-president Krishan Lal Sharma said in New Delhi. He said the party will issue a whip to support the IRA Bill. Those violating the whip will face disciplinary action, he added. Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Uma Bharati, had said in a TV interview that she will oppose the bill on behalf of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch. UNI |
