Nifty down by 8.3 pointsPivotals declined slightly on profit taking by local financial institutions and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange today. Securities which lost moderately in intraday trading, almost recovered at the end of the session. The total turnover on the exchange stood at Rs 17.3 billion. The number of trades were 248,589 while the quantity traded was 74 million shares. Mirroring the easy trend, NSE-50 Nifty index declined by 8.30 points to 1173.80 points as against the 1182.10 points of the previous day. The Dollar NSE-50 Defty index also fell by 7.20 points to 1024.70 points as compared to 1031.90 points on the last working day. The Midcap index reacted by 28.65 points to 1619.20 points over its previous close of 1647.85 points. About 163 securities have hit their price bands. The top securities which witnessed hectic activity were ITC Rs 3.7 billion, Reliance Rs 1.9 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.3 billion, Satyam Comp Rs 1 billion, Castrol Rs 589.4 million, ACC Rs 577.9 million, Tata Tea Rs 538.9 million, Glaxo Rs 512.7 million, LML Rs 480.9 million, Hind Lever Rs 386.8 million, Pentsware Rs 370.2 million, ICICI Rs 336.4 million, and Tisco Rs 289.3 million. The other actively traded counters included Infosystch Rs 253.9 million, Telco Rs 250.9 million, Sterlite Rs 249.8 million, MTNL Rs 218.2 million, BPL Rs 170.2 million, BSES Rs 166.6 million, L and T Rs 155.1 million, BHEL Rs 143.6 million, Escorts Rs 139.3 million, Tata Chem Rs 138.1 million, Digital Equip Rs 128.7 million, and Bajaj Auto Rs 126.4 million. L and T was the topmost gainer with 1.37 per cent, followed by SBI-N 1.30 per cent, TVS Suzuki 1.08 per cent, Telco 0.74 per cent and MTNL 0.68 per cent, while the losers list included Hindalco was the most sufferer with 6.37 per cent, Ind Rayon 5.49 per cent, IndoGulf 5.22 per cent, Tata Chem 5.01 per cent and Arvind Mills 4.83 per cent.
