Politics means living in the spotlight almost all the time. Gehlot is very shy -- unthinkable for a politician! -- something he candidly admits to. “I don’t like giving interviews, but as a chief minister, I have no choice. When I give interviews, I am always alone. Aides make me nervous,” he says (the only other person in the car apart from this correspondent and rediff.com photographer Uttam Ghosh is the driver).
“In school, whenever we had to speak before the class or for a debate, I would invariably fall ill and skip class. In college, a friend of mine once said I would speak in public. I did not forgive him for days afterwards,” he recalls, smiling at the memory.
