Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday launched the Bharatiya Janata Party's election campaign, criticising the Congress for adopting "double standards" when dealing with corruption and calling for the resignation of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi.

Chhattisgarh BJP leader Dilip Singh Judeo had resigned from the Cabinet following an allegation of corruption against him, the PM said, and asked why the Congress had not applied the same yardstick in Jogi's case.

"There is a charge sheet against Jogi. He should not only resign but the case against him should go on. Why should the policy be different in Jogi's case? This is a question I ask (Congress president) Sonia Gandhi," he said at a rally in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The PM said Judeo would not return to the Cabinet until his innocence was proved.

On the Telgi stamp paper scam in Congress-ruled Maharashtra, Vajpayee said Rs 23,000 crore was involved in the case.

"Why should there be one rule for a chief minister and another for others. We have to fight corruption together. There has to be honesty in the administration," he said.
