The Election Commission on Monday decided to send officials to probe into alleged irregularities and incident of arson in two assembly segments in Nagaland and asked respective returning officers to withhold election results till a final decision is taken.
After official announcement of the result in Arkakong assembly segment, from where Congress candidate Takatiba emerged victorious, it was reportedly found that the number of votes polled was higher by seven than the number of electorate registered in the rolls, the Commission said.
In a second incident, while the polling officials were about to count the last electronic voting machine inside the counting hall at Kiphire-Pungro segment under remote Tuensang district, some unidentified persons torched the ADC office and adjacent village guards commandant office.
In Kiphire-Pungro constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Torochu had established comfortable lead.
Chief Electoral Officer Lalthara said the Commission officials are scheduled to visit both the places on March six and will take a final decision only after probing the matter.
