The Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari, on Friday evening said Gujarat election would prove decisive for the nation's future.
Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic mosque on the occasion of Jumatul Vade, Bukhari said, "This election would decide the future of the country. It is to be decided whether law would prevail... or the followers of lawlessness and suppressors of the Constitution would rule."
He appealed to the voters in Gujarat to wipe out those responsible for the violence there.
"If the peace and justice loving people are ashamed of genocide and inhuman behavior with Muslims... [they] should express their shame by wiping out such elements," Bukhari said.
Blaming the Sangh Parivar for the recent riots in the state, he said, "The riots were not sudden but the Sangh Parivar had hatched the conspiracy earlier with the rioters being given training and rewards."
Criticising those who "teach secularism" to Muslims, Bukhari said it should be given to those who attack Islam and Muslims.
He asserted that Muslims have always been loyal to India and stood for secularism.
Bukhari also appealed to all Muslim countries to stand united against the "unholy alliance of America and Western powers against Islam".
He alleged that the US was planning to attack Iraq on the pretext of "destroying weapons" and said the recent events in Nigeria should be an eye-opener for "anti-Islamic elements".
