Relief camp cards valid for identity: Election Commission

Relief camp cards, property documents, student identity cards and even railway and bus passes would be accepted as valid for voter identity in the coming assembly election in Gujarat, Election Commission sources said.

The alternatives to photo identity cards issued by the Election Commission also include passport, driving licence, permanent account number card, student identity cards, service identity cards issued to employees by the state and central governments, public sector undertakings, local bodies and private industrial houses

Bank, kisan and post office pass books, [provided the accounts were opened on or before November 1, 2002]; ration cards [issued prior to the same date], scheduled caste, tribe and other backward class certificates issued by competent authority, property documents such as pattas and registered deeds, arms licences and certificates of physical handicap will also be considered valid.

Conductor licences issued by transport authority, pension documents such as ex-servicemen's pension book or pension payment order, freedom fighter identity cards, domicile certificates issued by the government, identity cards and house allotment letters issued by Slum Clearance Board up to October 31, 2002, insurance policy and certificate of residence issued by village administration officers or lekhpals duly counter signed by tehsildar will all be valid.
