Pandya supporters attack
BJP corporator

In a sign of the discontent in the BJP over distribution of tickets for the December 12 assembly polls in Gujarat, supporters of former home minister Haren Pandya on Wednesday night attacked a BJP corporator of the Ellisbridge area at a party function in Ahmedabad, police said.

Chairs were thrown at Amit Shah and he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons at the meeting, police said.

An injured Shah was taken to the V S Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Pandya, a known critic of caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi, was seeking renomination from the Ellisbridge assembly constituency, but was denied a ticket.

Three persons, believed to be Pandya's supporters, have been named in the FIR filed by the victims, police said. No arrests have been made so far, they added.
