The Congress on Monday released its last list of seven candidates for the Gujarat assembly election, nominating Pradeepbhai Kantilal Ruwala from Ellisbridge in Ahmedabad.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Bhavin Sheth from Ellisbridge after caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi's detractor Haren Pandya opted out of assembly polls.
The Congress now has its candidates in all but one seat in the state. The lone seat has been given to its ally -- the Communist Party of India.
The other six candidates that feature in the last list are: Jumabhai Ibrahimbhai Rayma (Abdasa), Nisha Rajput (Dariapur), Pankaj Shah (Shahpur), Farooq Shaikh (Kalupur), Jagat Shukla (Khadia) and Yogesh Patel (Anand).
Asked why only one seat was conceded to "secular" forces, which had joined hands to defeat the BJP, party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy said "winnability" was the only criterion used for selecting candidates.
