Modi to face six others for Maninagar seat

Caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Yatin Ojha of the Congress will lock horns in the Maninagar constituency for the December 12 assembly elections in Gujarat.

Five other candidates are also in the fray after seven nominations were filed from the prestigious seat on Monday, the last day for filing nominations.

Two more Bharatiya Janta Party candidates, the Samajwadi Party and the National Congress Party have also fielded their candidates from this constituency, including one independent candidate.

All eyes are now focused on this constituency, as former BJP MLA and strong opponent of the BJP, Ojha, who had resigned on 'ideological grounds', takes on Modi.

The constituency has witnessed communal riots in the past and after the Godhra carnage.

More than 20,000 minority voters dominate the area and their votes are considered to be a decisive element in the polls.

Maninagar was also severely hit during the earthquake when several children were killed after the Swaminarayan School building collapsed.
