Sending officers for Gujarat poll difficult, says Bihar

The Bihar government has expressed difficulty in relieving four of the six Indian Administrative Service officers requisitioned by the Election Commission to be observers during the forthcoming Gujarat assembly polls. The state, however, has suggested the names of four others as replacement, official sources said.

The state personnel department sent a letter to the Election Commission last week expressing difficulties in sending the four IAS officers. One of them is on a long study leave while the rest are posted in key departments.

The six officers requisitioned are --- Anand Vardhan Sinha, Manoj K Srivastava, Amita Paul, Navin Verma, Ravi Kant and Subash Sharma. Except for Sharma and Sinha, the personnel department said it could not release the others and suggested Ajit Kumar, S K Negi, Shishir K Sinha and Lian Kunga as replacements.

The Election Commission is yet to respond to the letter.
