Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Friday said the outcome of forthcoming assembly election in Gujarat would not have any bearing on the stability of the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre.
"Elections in a state are fought on issues relevant to that state. Assembly elections have their own significance...they have no bearing on the Union government," Advani said while speaking to journalists in Ranchi.
Asked to comment on Vishwa Hindu Parishad's decision to take out a 'padshahi yatra' in Gujarat defying an Election Commission ban, Advani said the state government would take appropriate action.
He said since he is in government he would not comment on the matter. "It is for the VHP to comment and may be for my party to do so. I cannot comment on the Election Commission's decision being a member of the government."
Asked if he had spoken to any of the VHP leaders in this connection, Advani said he had neither spoken to anyone nor would like to do so.
