Leaders of various Sangh Parivar outfits held a meeting in Gandhinagar on Wednesday to discuss the Election Commission's ban on religious rallies, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's proposed yatra, in Gujarat.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his predecessor Keshubhai Patel, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Pravin Maniyar, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sanjay Joshi, Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general-secretary Praveen Togadia and members of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh attended the meeting at the residence of former state revenue minister Vajubhai Vala.
They discussed the situation in Gujarat and the strategy to be adopted following the CEC's order.
Earlier, VHP senior vice-president Giriraj Kishore had said the outfit would defy the ban. Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh was anti-Hindu, he said, adding, "It [the ban] is an infringement of our fundamental right."
