Loktantrik Congress urges BJP for decision on UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh and an ally in his government have stepped up pressure on the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party to take a decision on the issue of change in leadership in the state.

Besides the chief minister, the Loktantrik Congress, the largest and strongest ally of the BJP in the state, has asked the BJP high command to take the decision, if any, about change in leadership in the state soon so that the indecision and speculation in this regard ended and political stability ensured.

Kalyan Singh had held a closed door meeting with Nanaji Deshmukh in Banda yesterday. Both of them did not divulge the contents of their talks. The chief minister said Nanaji Deshmukh is his guru and in times of need, he comes to the latter for advice and direction.

After his meeting with Nanaji Deshmukh, the chief minister said he did not desire a berth in the central cabinet, a high post in the party or a gubernatorial job. He only wished to live like a common party worker in the state.

The Loktantrik Congress said that the BJP would be responsible if anything untoward happened in the state in lieu of a decision being delayed regarding change of leadership.

Loktantrik president and state Energy Minister Naresh Agrawal has said his party supported the BJP for the sake of stability and such indecision was sending wrong signals to the public. He, however, did not suggest the removal of Kalyan Singh, terming it as an internal matter of the BJP.

No other party supporting the government has demanded a quick decision from the BJP central leadership, nor have the dissident MLAs or leaders issued any statement. Except the Congress, no other opposition party has demanded the resignation of Kalyan Singh

Former BJP state chief and senior party leader Kalraj Mishra does not agree with the chief minister that there is any political instability in the state.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Govindacharya, reacting to the Lok Tantrik Congress's statement, said that it was ''too premature to consult any allies'' on what, if any, changes in leadership ought to take place in UP.
