Pawan Chamling sworn-in as Sikkim CMA 17-member two-tier Sikkim Democratic Front ministry, headed by Pawan Chamling, was sworn in at a simple function at the Raj Bhawan in Gangtok today. Governor Chaudhury Randhir Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chamling and his council of ministers. Chamling took the oath in English and the others followed suit. Later, speaking to newspersons Chamling said the party's lone woman legislator Kalawai Subba would become the Himalayan state's first woman speaker. Governor Chaudhury Randhir Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to the following ministers: Cabinet ministers: Dorjee Dazum Bhutia, Garjaman Gurung, Hissey Lachungpa, Karna Bahadur Chamling, Thinley Tshering Bhutia, Ran Bahadur Subba, Prem Singh Tamang, Dorjee Tshering Lepcha, Karma Tempo Gyaltsen, Ram Bahadur Subba and Sher Bahadur Subedi. Ministers of state: Girish Chandra Rai, Tseten Dorjee Lepcha, Chandra Kumar Mohora, Ongden Tshering Lepcha and Thutop Bhutia. Names of former education minister Kerdar Nath Rai, urban development minister Tulshi Prashad Pradhan and food and civil supplies minister Tsenten Tashi Bhutia did not figure in today's list. Senior civil and police officials were present during the ceremony. The state's first chief minister Kazi Lendup Dorjee Hangserpa and the lone Rajya Sabha member from the state and state Congress president Karma Topden were among others present on the occasion. The opposition Sikkim Sangram Parishad chief and newly elected legislator Nar Bahadur Bhandari was conspicuous by his absence.
