EC acts on complaints about EVMs in Bangalore seats

The Election Commission has directed sealing of the control unit of Electronic Voting Machines in Bangalore (North) and Bangalore (South) parliamentary constituencies in the wake of complaints from candidates regarding how tamperproof the EVMs were.

Official sources said that though the EC had limited the sealing to the two Lok Sabha constituencies, it had been decided to extend the same rule to Mysore constituency, where EVMs were used.

The sources said that the control unit would be resealed on the counting table itself after the votes polled were displayed and recorded.

It may be recalled that candidates of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Janata Dal (United) had filed a petition before the EC on the matter.

The sources said that the results were likely to be delayed in view of the new direction. The results could now be expected only around 7 pm.
