40 pc polling in Rae Bareili till 1300 hrs

An estimated 40 per cent voters had exercised their franchise in the district which comprises the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency and two assembly segments of the Amethi parliamentary constituency, till 1300 hrs today.

According to official sources, polling was going on peacefully in the seven assembly segments of the district.

Local Congress leader Sharir Ahmad reported to the district authorities about alleged booth-capturing at Barolia polling centre in Nazirabad police circle. He also faxed a message to the election commissioner alleging that the inspector of Jais police station had terrorised the Congress workers.

A large number of burqa-clad women with babies in their arms were seen in the queue waiting for their turn. Despite inclement weather, moderate to brisk polling had been reported in various parts of the district.
