Jayaprada to take on Jaipal ReddyShireen in Hyderabad Film star and Rajya Sabha member Jayaprada is being fielded from Miryalaguda constituency in Andhra Pradesh to take on S Jaipal Reddy in the ensuing Lok Sabha election. Jaipal Reddy, who rejoined the Congress after a 23-year association with the Janata politics, is the Congress candidate from Miryalaguda. He replaces the sitting member of the dissolved Lok Sabha Baddam Narasimha Reddy who has instead been fielded for the Nakrekal assembly seat. The glamorous Jayaprada, who is also the chairperson of Telugu Mahila (women's wing of Telugu Desam Party), is the last-minute choice of Chief Minister and TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu to contest against his close friend and former United Front spokesperson Jaipal Reddy. Earlier, Chandrababu Naidu thought of fielding AP Dairy Development Cooperative Federation chairman G Sukhender Reddy against Jaipal Reddy. It is for the first time in a quarter century that Jaipal Reddy would be contesting on a Congress ticket. In successive elections to the assembly and the Lok Sabha from 1978 onwards, Jaipal Reddy had been always fighting against the Congress. Since 1984, he had been contesting the polls with the support of the Telugu Desam Party.
