Rahul Dravid on Saturday became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score century in each innings of a Test on more than one occasion.

Dravid had also performed the similar feat against New Zealand at Hamilton in 1998-99. Overall, it was the sixth such instance for India.

The details:

Indian batsmen making century in each innings of a Test

1st 2nd Batsman Vs Venue Season
116 145 VS Hazare Aus Adelaide 1947-48
124 220 SM Gavaskar WI Port-of-Spain 1970-71
111 137 SM Gavaskar Pak Karachi 1978-79
107 182* SM Gavaskar WI Kolkata 1978-79
190 103* R Dravid NZ Hamilton 1998-99
110 135 R Dravid Pak Kolkata 2004-05

It was the second instance for India and seventh overall when a batsman scored centuries in each innings of a Test against Pakistan.

The details:

Century in each innings of a Test against Pakistan

1st 2nd Batsman For Venue Season
125 109* G Sobers WI Georgetown 1957-58
153 115 RB Simpson Aus Karachi (Nat.) 1964-65
111 137 SM Gavaskar Ind Karachi (Nat.) 1978-79
150* 153 AR Border Aus Lahore (Gad.) 1979-80
116 121* DM Jones Aus Adelaide 1989-90
138* 103* PA de Silva SL Colombo (SSC) 1996-97
110 135 R Dravid Ind Kolkata 2004-05

On a curious note, out of the 17 previous Tests in which Dravid has scored a century, India have lost only one Test. Seven of Dravid's centuries were for the winning cause, while ten centuries (in nine Tests) came in drawn affairs.

One more interesting point. Dravid has now aggregated 7658 runs in his Test career. His tally is the highest for any Indian batsman after exactly 88 Tests. The previous record was of 7585 runs held by Sunil Gavaskar.

Infact, in all Tests, only one batsman -- West Indies' Gary Sobers -- has aggregated more runs than Dravid after exactly 88 Tests.
