Replying to Gujarat's first innings total of 330, Karnataka were struggling at 162 for six wickets at close on the second day of the four-day Ranji Tropy Elite Group A encounter at the M A Chinnaswamy stadium in bangalore on Wednesday.
Barring opener Barrington Rowland (59) and skipper J Arun Kumar (29), none of the Karnataka batsmen impressed, as the Gujarat bowlers did a good job to give their team the upper hand.
Karnataka had a decent start with Rowland and Arun Kumar sharing a 61-run stand for the first wicket, but thereafter they lost wickets regularly.
Leg-spinner Timil Patel and medium pacer Lalit Patel picked two wickets each.
Earlier, resuming at 286 for 7, Gujarat added another 44 runs before being all out in 109 overs.
Tailenders Timil Patel and Siddarth Trivedi hit unbeaten knocks of 59 and 43 respectively, to frustrate the hosts' bowling attack.
The duo put on 66 runs for the eighth wicket which could turn out to be crucial.
Vinay Kumar was the pick of the Karnataka bowlers, taking five wickets for 83 runs, while Dodda Ganesh claimed 3 for 92.
