Australia confirmed their status as world champions by wrapping up the best-of-three tri-series finals 2-0 against India, at the Sydney Cricket Ground by 208 runs.

Though the Indian bowling was treated with disdain by the Australian batsmen, Irfan Pathan ended the series as the top wicket-taker with 16 wickets. Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist was the top run-getter in the series with 498 runs from eight matches which included two fifties and a hundred at a strike rate of 122.
