The West Indian renaissance?
Opener Chris Gayle uses his height well and especially favours the drive through point. Says Aussie opener Justin Langer: 'He hits the ball harder than anyone. He plays cricket in a nonchalant manner that reminds you of the West Indies of old.'
Gayle's casual approach frustrates spectators at times, but he is a talent to watch out for. An impressive record as an opening batsman and his performances have suggested that he will be around for a long time.
He averaged 36.5 in the just-concluded Test series.
