Under the sport's rules, international teams are required to bowl at a rate of 15 overs an hour and face stiff penalties if they do not adhere to the regulations.
India completed 62 overs in Thursday's rain-shortened opening day of the first test, nine overs below what was required in the time played.
Yadav said the team had warned by match referee Mike Proctor to get a move on.
"He just brought it to our notice and we will be improving it," Yadav said.
"He made a point of it and we know it's something we have to work on."
Any penalties for slow over rates are determined at the end of the match rather than on a daily basis so India can still make up for lost time.
If teams are five overs behind the expected rate, the players are deducted five percent of their match fee with the captain losing 10 percent.
The fines may be doubled if teams are further than five overs behind the schedule.
In extreme cases, captains can be charged for time wasting, where they can face fines of between 50 and 100 percent of their suspension plus the possibility of a one match ban.
