What should India do to grab a better share of the global information technology business?
Finance is critical. If sufficient investment is made in infrastructure and venture capital is made available, there will be a big improvement in the situation. The government has to encourage investment from outside.
What should be the technology focus of Indian software companies?
So far, Indian companies have focused more on customer application. This needs to shift to packaged software for sectors such as banking and financial services.
What would be Computer Associates' key operating areas in India?
It would be mainly management of network and software for systems integration. There would also be some venture capital opportunity.
How does India's IT strength measure against competition like Malaysia and Taiwan?
India has the unique advantages of having the biggest domestic market and this should support IT companies.
What about the restrictions on flow of software brain power from India to the USA?
Software personnel can stay here and work here. They would be immensely successful. Enterprise must be developed here, as the basic technology skills are already available. I have a high degree of confidence about India's growth potential in IT.
