Olympics Discus throw: Kamalpreet finishes 6th

India's Kamalpreet Kaur finished 6th in the Discus throw final with a best attempt of 63.70m.

One throw was all it took for the Valarie Allman of the United States to win Olympic gold in the womens discus on Monday, with a 68.98-metre (226.3 ft) performance.

Germanys Kristin Pudenz had a personal best 66.86 metres for silver and Cubas Yaime Perez took bronze with 65.72.

A torrential downpour during the second round injected chaos into the competition, as a handful of athletes struggled to complete their throws before organisers temporarily suspended the event.

Croatia's Sandra Perkovic fell short in her mission for a third consecutive Olympic gold, finishing fourth at 65.01 metres.


In the Equestrian event, Fouaad Mirza finished 23rd in Final of Jumping (Individual) event. 

Commendable performance that.

USA's Allman wins gold, Germany's Pudenz wins silver and Cuba's Perez takes bronze. 



Steinacker comes to commence the 6th attempt and she cards a distance of 60.32m.

Jamaica's Lawrence's throw deemed invalid. 

Kamalpreet now to throw and she throws wide of the area and that is an invalid throw. 

Croatia's Perkovic attempts to throw and she throws a distanee of 63.25 and that is the end of the defending champ's medal attempt. 

Cuba's Perez is now on 3rd and her throw goes wide, she steps out, invalid throw deemed.

Germany's Pudenz throws and she crashes the discus into the cage to take silver.

USA's gold guaranteed but she steps up to take the final throw, it's invalid but her throw of 68.98m in the first attempt assures her a gold. 



In the 5th attempt, Steinacker throws a distance of 60.20m.

Jamaica's Lawrence's throw not so strong and cards a distance of 59.26m.

Kamalpreet throws a poor distance of 61.37m. 

Portugal's Ca willingly walks out of the circle and that is an invalid throw.

Croatia's Perkovic's attempt crashes into the cage. Invalid throw that.

Germany's Pudenz's smooth attempt, great rotation and movement and that is a distance of 66.86m. That is also her personal best.

Cuba's Perez throws poorly and that is an invalid throw. 

Up now is USA's Allman who throws a distance of 66.78 to keep her on the top spot.





Final round of 3 attempts starts with Germany's Steinacker whose first attempt, the discuss hits the cage. An invalid throw again. 

Jamaica's Lawrence throws a distance of 59.46. 

Kamalpreet Kaur makes a foul, while rotating her foot goes out of the circle and the throw is deemed invalid.

Portugal's Ca on now and her discus hits the cage and that is an invalid throw.   

Croatia's Perkovic's smooth pivot but her throw was not good and she came out of the circle, throw deemed invalid. 

Germany's Pudenz willfully goes out of the circle and invalid throw that.

Cuba's Perez on now, she throws brilliantly and cards a distance of 65.20 in the 4th attempt. Stays in contention for a silver medal.

USA's Valerie Allman throws a distance of 64.76m.




Top 8 of the 12 get another three throw attempts and the top three bag medals.  

Kamalpreet Kaur is at No 6 and she qualifies to throw 3 more attempts to vie for a medal. 
Allman resumes proceedings after the rain and the leader throws a foul throw in her 2nd attempt.

Germany's Steinacker registers a throw of 62.02 in her 2nd attempt. 

China's Chen throws 61.43m in her 3rd attempt.

Invalid throws by Ca and Okasue next.

Croatia's Perkovic throws a distance of 65.01 in her 3rd attempt and now is on 4th spot.

Jamaica's Lawrence now and she throws poorly carding 58.98m.

Germany's Vita throws 61.80 to be on 11th spot.

Portgual's Da Silva's 3rd attempt is a disappointing 59.56m.

Germany's Pudenz throws a distance of 64.35.

India's Kamalpreet Kaur in the circle now and she throws wonderfully to card a distance of 63.70m to go up to 6th spot.

Cuba's Perez throws 63.20m. 

Champion Allman throws now and another invalid throw.

Steinacker throws poorly, goes into the cage, invalid throw. 

Now Portugal's Ca's 3rd attempt is invalid. 

The discus throw finalists back in the circle, they warm-up before the resumption of the  competition in a few minutes. 






After 2 rounds, Kamalpreet Kaur at 7th spot (61.62m). 

So far, USA's Valerie Allman is in the lead with a throw of 68.98m.



China's Chen's third attempt is a foul as rains getting heavier.

Portugal's Ca registers a foul as she slips as she loses her footing while pivoting to throw.

The volunteers get to work, drying up the circle. The event has been interrupted due to the weather. 



 

 

In her 2nd attempt a heavily taped Kamalpreet Kaur's 2nd attempt deemed invalid because of a foul. In 7th place now.

China's Chen throws 59.59 in her second attempt.

Portugal's Ca now throws a distance of 63.93 bettering her first attempt, now up to the third spot. 

Italy's Osakue's foul throw now. 

Croatia's Perkovic in her second attempt is a foul throw, didn't get a good release point and the defending champ disappoints. Her first throw was 62.53.

Jamaica's Lawrence's smooth throw and she has covered a distance of 62.12 at 6th place now, displacing Kamalpreet Kaur.

Germany's Vita throws and her throw is deemed foul because she moves from the spot. 

Brazil's Da Silva next and that is a foul throw.

Germany's Pudenz on now and she throws wonderfully, superb body rotation and strong throw with a distance of 65.34. 

Kamalpreet Kaur's second attempt now and her throw has been deemed foul. Her attempt won't be counted.  

There is a slight drizzle and the throwers having a bit of a challenge. The volunteers are drying up the area as Chen readies for her third attempt.





After the first round Kamalpreet is in 6th spot. 


First up is China's Chen who throws a distance of 61.57m, Portugal's Ca has thrown a distance of 62.31.

Italy's Osakue has thrown at distance of 59.97m. 

Croatia's Perkovic is leading the pack with a distance of 62.53 and Nigeria's Lawrence 60.22.

Germany's Vita throws 60.70 and after her Brazil's Da Silva throws 60.39m.

Germany's Prudenze now leads at 63.07m.

India's Kamalpreet Kaur throws at a distance of 61.62m. 

Cuba's Perez leads now with a throw of 65.72m. 

USA's Valerie Allman has thrown at a distance of 68.98 with a wonderful pivot and smooth throw.

Kamalpreet Kaur, who qualified for the Olympics discus throw finals at second place with an impressive performance on Saturday, will be in action in the finals shortly.

16:06   Lifter Wang wins China's sixth gold

Wang Zhouyu won the women's 87 kg class on Monday to give China its sixth gold medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 27-year-old lifted a combined weight of 270 kg, a comfortable seven kilograms more than Ecuador's Tamara Salazar who took silver with 263 kg.

Dominican Republic's Crismery Santana claimed bronze with 256 kg.

Wang led after completing a lift of 120 kg at her third attempt in the snatch following an unexpected failure at 115 kg on her first attempt.

In the clean and jerk, she failed in a bid to lift 160 kg to break her record set at the 2019 world championships.

14:40   Gymnastics: Biles on start list for balance beam final

US gymnast Simone Biles is on the start list for Tuesday's balance beam final, according to the Tokyo 2020 schedule posted on Monday afternoon.

Biles, who won four golds in the 2016 Rio Olympics, had withdrawn from the other four individual finals she had qualified for in Tokyo, citing mental health issues.

The beam is her last chance to take part.

11:39   Shooters Tomar, Rajput crash out

Indian shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput failed to qualify for the finals of the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.

Tomar finished 21st in the qualification while Rajput was placed in 32nd position at the Asaka Shooting Range as the Indian shooting team returned without a medal for the second straight time at the Olympics.

Only the top 8 athletes qualify for the final.

Tomar shot a total of 1167 with 63 inner 10s in the qualification over the stages of kneeling, prone and standing, while Rajput, appearing in his third Olympics, aggregated 1157 with 55 inner 10s.

The cut was made at 1176.

With this, Indian shooters failed to win a medal for a second successive Olympics.

10:34   Camacho-Quinn wins women's 100m hurdles

Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the women's 100 metres hurdles gold on Monday, blitzing the field despite hitting one hurdle to finish in 12.37 seconds at Tokyo's spectator-free Olympic Stadium.

American world record holder Kendra Harrison won silver in 12.52 and Jamaican Megan Tapper took bronze in 12.55.

Camacho-Quinn exploded off the blocks and strode shoulder-to-shoulder with Harrison, accelerating through the finish to win her first-ever Olympic medal and Puerto Rico's first of the Tokyo Games.

The victory capped a dazzling performance in Tokyo for Camacho-Quinn, who broke the Olympic record in her semi-final a day earlier.

10:10   India women beat Australia, enter SF

Gurjit Kaur's strike helped India women shock Australia in the hockey quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.

Kaur scored the winner in the 22nd deflections off a penalty corner as India's women advanced to the semi-finals for the first time.

The Indian women hockey team's best finish came at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow when they finished fourth among six teams.

In the semi-finals, they will take on Argentina, who scored a 3-0 win over Germany.

10:01   India women shock Australia 1-0

A fast move from Australia in the 51st minute but once again the Indian defenders keep their cool to ward off the danger.

A penalty corner for Australia in the 52nd minute as Fitzpatrick takes a direct route this time but it is blocked by the Indian goalkeeper. The Aussies win another penalty corner but it is again cleared by the Indians without any drama.

The Indians break into another quick counter attack but the Australian defender comes up with a crucial interception inside the circle.

The Indian women just seven minutes away from one of their most famous wins.

The pressure causing Australia to commit quite a few mistakes as they go all out in search for the all-important equaliser.

India's Nikki Pradhan gets a green card in the 54th minute as she sits out for the next two minutes giving Australia an advantage.

Australia review a call in the 57th minute after Indian defender Monika looks to have pushed the Aussie player inside the circle. The review goes Australia's way as they win the penalty corner with three minutes to go.

Fitzpatrick goes direct but once again it is steered away to safety by Monika before Australia win another penalty corner.

This time Australia go for the variation with a few quick passes inside the circle but the Indian goalkeeper Savita again to her team's rescue. 2 minutes to go.

09:39   India women lead Australia 1-0

A good chance for Australia as Williams attempts the reverse scoop but it is stopped by Indian custodian Savita as the Aussies get a penalty corner in the ensuing scramble.

Australia again trying the varation with the penalty corner but Fitzpatrick's shot is well blocked by Savita, who has been terrific in front of goal with saves after saves.

Another penalty for Australia but again the variation is not upto the mark as their frustration continues to build with the Indian defence holding strong.

Good stick work from Navneet in the circle but her shot goes wide as the striker near the post is unable to get a deflection.

While they have sustaining the pressure of the Australian attack, India's forward line have also kept up the pressure with some swift counters.

Good cross from the right but captain Rani Rampal is unable to conver the chance under pressure from the Australian defender.

India have played to script in the third quarter, managing to keep the Aussies at bay to keep their 1-0 intact, with 15 minutes left in the quarter-final match.

09:12   Olympics Hockey: India women lead Aus 1-0 at halftime

Australia continue to surge forward as they attempt to break the deadlock in the second quarter.

Australia have won the first penalty corner of the match in the 20th minute after Malone was pushed in the circle as India decide to take the review but it goes against them.

India defending desperately as they manage to successfully stave off Australia's challenge to keep the score goalless.

India with a good chance to take the lead as they earn their first penalty corner in the 22nd minute. Gurjit Kaur opens the scoring as the ball goes off an Australian's stick.

An advantage for Australia as Monika is shown the green card and has to sit out for the next two minutes.

A good opportunity for Chalker but she hits it wide before another good cross from the right is missed by the Australian strikers.

India do well to keep Australia at bay in the last few minutes as they take a deserved 1-0 lead at half time.

08:48   Hockey: India women vs Aus 0-0 after 1st quarter

An early chance for Australia in 2nd minute but Malone's slap hits the post after Lawton put a good ball into the circle.

A chance for India at the other end as they break quickly but the Australian defender is alert to intercept and clear the danger.

India have stood up the task quite well, dominating person early with 59 percent possession in the first eight minutes as the score stays goalless.

India nearly open the scoring in the 10th minute as Rani Rampal deflects Vandana Katariya's shot into the post as they continue to rattle the Australians.

Another chance for Australia but Peris hits it wide before Sharmila is injured in the clash with Australian goalkeeper as she tries to get to the through ball.

Australia quick on the counter as Stewart gets into the scoring circle but blasts her shot over the post.

It has been impressive showing from India as they hold Australia goalless at the break after the 1st quarter.

08:36   Greek Tentoglou wins long jump gold

Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece won the men's long jump gold at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.

Juan Miguel Echevarria of Cuba took the silver while his compatriot Maykel Masso picked up the bronze medal.

Echevarria took the lead with a 8.41m leap on his third attempt but in the final round Tentoglou matched that distance. The Greek took the gold medal on countback with his next-best effort of 8.15m ahead of the Cuban's 8.09.

Echevarria pulled up in his final attempt and unable to take off had to settle for the silver. Masso set the pace early in the contest with a first jump of 8.21m which proved enough for the bronze medal.

07:39   Olympics Updates: Dutee finishes last in 200m heat

India sprinter Dutee Chand crashed out of the women's 200m after finishing last in the heat at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.

Dutee clocked her season best timing of 23.85 seconds but was unable to make it to the semi-finals after finishing seventh in Heat 4.

Dutee had also managed seventh place in the women's 100m heat to finish 45th overall out of 54 competitors in the event.
