Asian Games updates: Dutee Chand wins silver in women's 100m

19:45   Dutee Chand wins silver in women's 100m
Dutee Chand claimed the silver medal in the women's 100m at the Asian Games with 11.32 seconds.

It turned out to be a close finish as Dutee narrowly missed out on the elusive gold medal finishing a close second behind Bahrain's Edidiong Odiong who took top spot with 11.30 seconds.

China's Yongli Wei took the bronze.

Dutee had qualified for the women's 100m final by clocking 11.43 in the first semi-final.

19:10   Lakshmanan disqualified from 10000m
India's Govindan Lakshmanan has been disqualified from the men's 10,000m at the Asian Games.

Earlier, Lakshmanan had scripted history by winning the bronze medal in men's 10,000m at the Asian Games.This was the first medal for India in the 10,000m after a long wait of 20 years but the result has been annulled.

18:48   Long-jumper M Sreeshankar finishes sixth
M Sreeshankar finished sixth in the men's long jump final. He managed a best of 7.95m he managed in his second jump, but failed to improve with two fouls in his last two jumps.

China's Jianan Wang won the gold with a Games record of 8.24, while his team mate Yaoguang Zhang claimed the silver with a personal best of 8.15.

There is more good news from Track and Field as India's Muhammed Anas finishes 2nd in the men's 400m final, clocking a time of 45.69s.

Rajiv Arokia finishes 4th with a timing of 45.84s.

Hima Das will bring home a silver for India after finishing just behind Bahrain's Silwa Nasa to finish second in the 400m final. 

A World Youth Champion, Hima clocked a timing of 50.79. 

Nirmla Sheoren finished 4th with a timing of 50.96.

Alright then!

17:12   India beat Chinese Taipei in compound men's archery team semis

Dutee qualifies for the 100m women's final that will be held at 1940 tonight.


Dutee Chand in action now in the 100m semis first heat.

She runs in lane 4.

Dutee leads the race in what is a photo finish. She finishes with a timing of 11.43 secs in a close, close race.

16:08   Face South Korea in final


The India's men compound archery team beat Chinese Taipei 230-227 to enter the final.

In what will be a replay of the 2014 Games, India will take on heavyweights South Korea in the final.

Chinese Taipei start End 4 with 29 points.

India hit 9, 10 and 10 ad India have a four-point lead in the 4th End.

The last 3 shots come up and Chinese Taipei hit bulls eye with 30 points. 

India need 27 points and they have done it! 

India through to the final. They beat Chinese Taipei 230-227.

In End 3 Chinese Taipei have shot 8, 10 and 9 and India shoot well to take lead after 15 of 24 shots. 

India now need 26 points to win End 3.

They hit 10, 9 and 10 to win the 3rd End with the scores reading 172-168.


Earlier, the table tennis mens team is off to a good start, blanking UAE in their first pool match. Sathiyan G, Harmeet Desai and Sharath Kamal win their matches in straight games.

The compound archery men's team now in action against Chinese Taipei in the semis. 

India have won the 2nd End winning by a point -- 114-113.


Chinese Taipei hit 28 in their first three shots.

India's Verma and Saini have hit 8 each. Rajat Chauhan gets a 10 and India are now 2 points behind.

Chinese Taipei hit 29 points, India follow that up with 29 points and lose the first End by 1 point. 

The score is 56-55.

Hang on. the teams are actually tied 57-57 after End 1 after officials rechecked.

15:19   Sindhu advances to semis, assures India of medal

Compound Archery Men's Team of Aman Saini, Abhishek Verma and Rajat Chauhan edged Philipennes 227-226 to enter the semis.

In boxing, India's Sarjubala Devi beat Tajikistan's Madina Ghaforova in the women's fly 51kg category with a 5-0 win to advance. 


Earlier, PV Sindhu beat Thailand's Jindapol 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 to enter the women's singles semi-finals.

14:58   Boxer Manoj loses in pre-quarters


Sindhu wins the match and assures India another medal in the women's badminton after beating Thailand's Jindapol 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 to enter the women's singles semi-finals.

After the break, Jindapol wins three back-to-back points to close the margin at 11-13.

An error of judgment from the Thai gives Sindhu a point.

Jindapol wins a superb point off a smash. 

Another long rally and the Thai plays it long.

A superb smash to win the long rally and go up 17-13.

Sindhu wins another long rally by opening the court up and winning a point to go up 19-16.

Sindhu is retrieving well and making her opponent run. 

Sindhu has 6 at match-points now and wins after Jindapol fails to return.

14:43   Sindhu takes 11-7 lead at break in 3rd game


In the 3rd game, the Thai girl has taken a 4-2 lead.

Sindhu then plays a superb smash. She then wins four points in a row to go up 10-7.

Sindhu now leads 11-7 at the break.


In Boxing, India's Manoj Kumar loses Krygz pugilist 0-5 in the pre-quarters of the Men's Welter: 69 kg category.


News coming in from table tennis and India have lost their women's team match 3-0 to China in the 2nd pool tie.

After the break, Jindapol wins 3 quick points to go level at 11-11.

Saina loses her lead after hitting the ball into the net. 

Peppered with long rallies, the lead is exchanged from one player to the other.

Jindapol plays a good cross court shot to take the lead again.

Sindhu is now making some errors and lags 13-16. 

Jindapol makes a rare service error and Sindhu plays the cross court smash to go just one behind.

She does well to level 16-16.

Lovely rally and Jindapol plays a cross court winner to take a 2-point lead.

Jindapol claws her way back after the break and beats Sindhu 21-16 in the second game.

Sindhu has started strongly here in the 2nd game and takes a 4-3 early on.

Sindhu is returning well and inducing errors from Jindapol.

A few errors from Sindhu and then a superb jump smash has the players level at 7-7.

A long rallies, both players cover the court well and Jindapol takes the lead for the first time in the match to 8-7.

PV then wins a lovely net point to go up 10-8.

Sindhu then takes a 11-8 lead at the break.

After the break, Sindhu just races to a 20-10 lead.

Sindhu wins that first game 21-11. The Indian player totally dominated her opponent in that game to take the lead in the match.

PV Sindhu now takes on World No. 11 Nitchaon Jindapol in the other semis. 

Sindhu opens the court up and a wristy shot gives Sindhu a 9-6 lead.

Sindhu goes into the break with a 11-7 lead. 

The Indian has been the better of the two making less unforced errors.

The Indian women's team  have marched into the Compound Archery final after defeating  Chinese Taipei 222-225. 

After the scores were tied, both teams took 3 shots each where India's Muskan, Madhumita & Jyoti scored 10 points each to record a win move into the semis.

Earlier, Saina Nehwal beat Thai girl Intanon 21-18, 21-16 to enter the semis and guarantee India of a medal in the badminton women's singles event.

In the men's skeet shooting, India's Sheeraz Sheikh and Angad Vir Singh fail to qualify for the final.

Saina has assured India their first badminton individual medal after 36 years.

Syed Modi had last won the bronze for India in the men's singles at the 1982 Asiad.

Saina has scripted a superb turn around after being 3-8 down at the break in the first game. 

Saina Nehwal beats Thai girl Intanon 21-18, 21-16 to enter the semis and guarantee India of a medal in the badminton women's singles event.

A couple of unforced errors from Intanon sends Saina to a four-point lead.

Wow! The rallies are long but Saina making them count with her downward shots. 16-11 is the lead now for the Indian.

Intanon makes a couple of errors and Saina up to a 19-14 lead.

Nice smash down the line by Intanon and another one after a long rally and Saina's lead gone to 3 points.

Helped by the net chord and Saina goes to game point.

Saina wins a long rally to win the game 21-16.

Saina has raced to a 4-1 lead here in the second game.

Remember, if Saina wins this game, India will be assured of at least a bronze.

A slew of errors from Intanon sees Saina go up 7-3.

Saina picking the shuttle well, returning well and opening up the court now.

Saina has missed 2 points in a row but goes into the break will a 11-9 lead.

12:56   Silver medal for India in Equestrian

Some good news coming in from archery, the Indian women's team of Muskan, Madhumita & Jyoti have gone through to the semis of the compound Women's Team Event with 239-224 win over Indonesia.


In the badminton match, Saina is not moving very well but she has managed to claw back and lower the deficit to 8-13.

Intanon now returns wide and the deficit is now 4 points with the scores reading 14-10 in favour of the Thai.

Some good net play sees Intanon go up 16-10. 

Some superb rallies here but the Thai wins the big points with a jump smash to keep her lead up to 17-11. 

A rare miss from the Thai and Saina reduces the defiicit to 3 points.

Intanon returns long and then faulters at the net as the deficit is now just one point. 

It's a big rally and that's a big point for Saina as goes level at 17-17.

The match continues to be on level as Saina plays a superb return that Intanon can't reach to. 

Saina's superb netplay sees Saina take the lead for the first time in the game and she goes up 19-18.

Another error from the Thai and Saina is on game point.

Saina comes back from the dead, wins five back-to-back points to win the first game 21-18.

12:40   Silver medal for India in Equestrian



Saina faces Ratchanok Intanon and she has not had the best of starts.

Her error-prone game has seen her take fall back by a big margin but she briefly gets back, winning 2 points in a row. 

Intanon making Saina bend and run as  her returns are precise and she races to a 11-3 lead at the break. 

Saina needs to pull up her socks after the break.

Earlier, Fouaad Mirza won a silver in the Equestrian event to add to India's medal tally.

The news coming in from the shooting range is not good for India with Ganemat Sekhon & Rashmi Rathore failing to qualify for Women Skeet final.
 
Ganemat finished 10th with 112 points, while Rashmi finished 12th with 111 points.

After the men's the women's team in Canoe are out of medal contention, finishing with a timing of 2:33.987.

The Indian men's handball team have exited the Asian Games after losing yet another group stage match,  this time going down to Chinese Taipei 31-35. 

Earlier, India's Compound Archery men's team beat Qatar 227-213 to enter the quarters, which is scheduled for later today. They will face Philippines for a place in the semis.

In Canoe, India out of medals race after finishing fifth in their semi-final of the mens 500m TBR,

India's Compound Archery men's team beat Qatar 227-213 to enter the quarters, which is scheduled for later today. They will face Philippines for a place in the semis.

In more news from Track and Field, the heats 2 of the men's 400m hurdles has been cancelled and that means that India's Dharun and Santosh Kumar have qualified for the semis that will be held this evening. 

Earlier, Jauna Murmu & Anu Raghavan qualify for final of 400m women's hurdles event.

09:36   Good start for India on Day 8


In Table tennis, the Indian women's team beat the Qatar women's team 3-0. 

Its a good start by India in track and field this Sunday morning as Jauna Murmu & Anu Raghavan qualify for final of 400m Hurdles

Murmu finished 4th in Heat 1 clocking 59.20s.

Raghavan finished 3rd in Heat 2 clocking 56.77s.

The final will take place on Monday evening.
