Questions Sitaram Yechuri didn't answer
Punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 7:42 IST)
Mr yechuri ? u there ?
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 7:49 IST)
Communism hasn't brought India *any* good. What is the point of waving the flag of a lost cause ?
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 7:50 IST)
why must India have this unholy UF alliance again. Deve Gowda was bad enough, we don't want Jyoti Basu making India into a communist nightmare
Karl (Thu Feb 5 1998 7:59 IST)
Hello Mr Yechuri, sir do you think the UF will come back to power
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:0 IST)
hello mr yechuri ! Communism is wiped out everywhere. What is its relevance in a democracy like ours?
Bhaskar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:0 IST)
Mr Yechury: Will Jyoti Basu become the next prime minister of India???
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:2 IST)
Mr Yechuri, I think other than Kerala and Bengal, you have no mass base. So, where is the question of forming another govt ?
Sanjay (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:3 IST)
Mr Yechury: Can you tell us what is the difference of opinion with the CPI. Because younger generation do not know much about it? Do you think CPI will merge with the CPI (M)?
S S Jamal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:5 IST)
Comrade Yechuri, Lal Salam! Jyotibabu says he will become prime minister if he is asked. Note the he, not the party. Does that mean the party has come around to the view that keeping him out of the gaddi last time was a mistake?
S K Khandekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:6 IST)
Your former comrade Manini Chatterjee has attacked Atalji's role in the 1942 movement. I amaze at the audacity of you Marxists. If there was anyone who played a treacherous role, it was you guys, and you have the cheek to attack Atalji. Is he a patriot ,in your eyes or not?
Geet (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:7 IST)
Hello Mr. Yechuri....Your party has been fighting corruption and dynastic rule that was the hallmark of successive congress govts. since Independence....But now u seem to be playing second fiddle to the same congress and the 10, Janpath in the hollow claim of fighting "communal forces"....how do u justify such u-turn of your party ?
Manoj (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:7 IST)
Mr Yechury: What are your differences with the Naxalites. Is it something that you do not believe in violence??
Geet (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:7 IST)
Hello Mr. Yechuri....Your party has been fighting corruption and dynastic rule that was the hallmark of successive Congress govts. since Independence....But now u seem to be playing second fiddle to the same congress and the 10, Janpath in the hollow claim of fighting "communal forces"....how do u justify such a U-turn?
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:8 IST)
Sir, Will u support a Congress Government if it manages to get around 200 seats while BJP gets 250
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:9 IST)
Mr SY-This strategy of/by your party of projecting 'an old man' as our next PM may not work. Why not U??.
G B Pottekat (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:10 IST)
Mr Yechuri: Barring the issue of secularism, which agreed is a major issue, I see no difference in what the BJP says and what you guys say. Both of you want to take India to the Middle Ages. What India needs is some dynamic thinking which neither you or the BJP can give. Please comment.
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:10 IST)
to what length will the UF/LEFT go to prevent BJP from coming to power
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:11 IST)
What is the position of the Left on the Babri Masjid demolition ?
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:13 IST)
Why do u oppose multinationals ?
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:14 IST)
Will the Left support BJP if they fall short of majority?
Murde Lal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:15 IST)
Every attempt at unity of the left of centre parties have failed, including the last one. Why can't for a start, at least all the communist parties unite? Why do you guys have such big egos and so few seats in the LS?
Murde Lal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:16 IST)
You guys used to draw sustenance from the Soviet Union and China? What do you have to say about their different ideologies today?
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:16 IST)
Who will be the next PM of India ?
Geet (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:16 IST)
Mr.Yechury : you and your party pose to be the greatest defender od Indian democracy and Constitution but when the BSP withdrew support from the Kalyan Singh govt. in UP lst year and the governor gave Mr.Kayan Singh only 48 hours to prove majority (including the Sunday in between) what did u do ? Especially when this is contrasted with the stance of the Gujarat governor who allowed nearly seven days to Vaghela when the Congress pulled out support from his govt.?
In UP, you readily accepted the Bhandari report on the "breakdown" of law or order in UP just be'coz of the fact that some opposition rowdy MLAs deliberately created trouble inside the assembly ?
Wasn't it a sell-out of the UF govt. supported by the great CPI-M? Wasn't it day-light murder of democracy ?
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:17 IST)
MR SY - Have U Left??? Or has the ideology slowed U down.??.
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:19 IST)
The Congress strength in assembly rose to 40 in previous election. How do u explain your stand
Pran (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:21 IST)
Mr Yechury: The communists have messed up the entire West Bengal economy. Last time, when I visited Bengal, I found that there was no working culture in your workers. In fact, in the name of unions they just come to take their salary without any work?
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:21 IST)
Mr. Yechuri, MNCs are here to make money. Not to ensure that Bajaj produces scotter models of the 60s. Why support an inefficient industry. Other countries don't ! Why should we ? Foreign investment is scarce as it is, if we start shackling them, it will disappear altogether !
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:22 IST)
You have not answered any of my questions. This leads to impression that u are unable to justify your party's stand on issues ?
SML (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:22 IST)
If UF get another chance, will Mr. Jyoti Basu accept the PM seat or not?
punekar (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:24 IST)
Communist countries have *never* prospered. What makes u think you can succeed here ?
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:24 IST)
Mr Yechuri-You have been harping about domestic industry and look at the cars our so called domestic industry gave us before Suzuki was allowed to come in. We Indians must learn to upgrade our industry and that is possible only if the outsider is allowed with his technology and money -ofcourse.
Rajesh (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:26 IST)
Mr. Yechuri : Your party is now back to the electorate asking for the mandate to govern India by citing the example of WB, where the communists have been at the helm of affairs for nearly 25 years. But, can you please tell how is the state of WB any different from any other state, say Bihar in terms of development & growth. How is the common man in WB better off than is counterpart in other Indian states ?
suleman (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:26 IST)
I think it's best for me to leave this room as i am unable to get any replies.
Vidya (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:26 IST)
Mr Yechuri: How can u fight the elections. When Mao Zedong and Stalin never believed in the parliamentary democracy??
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:28 IST)
suleman have patience. Maybe mr yechuri's connection is slow. After all, VSNL SUCKS
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:28 IST)
Mr SY-I am still waiting for your answer to my 1st post. Secondly I was just suggesting a stable India under a younger PM & not an eighty something year old. India needs continuity & strong leadership now and not instability.
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:29 IST)
pardon my repeated messaging. Something is wrong with this channel /my browser
Rajesh (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:29 IST)
Mr.Yechuri : Do you realistically expect that the "secularism vs. communalism" propaganda can take you too far ?
Murde Lal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:30 IST)
If protecting secularism is so important, or destroying poverty?
Anita (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:31 IST)
Mr Yechuri: What kind of personal life do you lead. Because, I know that one of your ex-friend, Mr Saifuddin Choudhary used to travel by local buses. Do you and your communist bretheren travel by local buses???
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:32 IST)
I hear reports in the press that the Left is preparing to part ways with the UF and support the BJP, if the BJP falls short of a majority this time Is it true ?
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:33 IST)
rajesh, Pls dont yell.
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:37 IST)
If you have differences on issues like liberalisation, why do you stick with the UF ?
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:38 IST)
I hear reports in the press that the Left is preparing to part ways with the UF and supprt BJP, if BJP falls short of a majority this time Is it true ?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:38 IST)
I THINK THE CPI(M) IS A BIG HYPOCRITE.YOU PEOPLE ARE BRINGING UP ISSUES WHICH ARE MORE THAN A COUPLE OF DECADES OLD AND ARE OF ANY RELEVANCE TO OUR COUNTRY.PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD BE LIVING IN CUBA.
punekarr (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:40 IST)
hail democracy and jai hind. Its getting late, i must go home. Mr. Yechuri, thank you for your time.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:40 IST)
RATHER THAN SHOUTING AGAINST BJP WHY DONT YOU PEOPLE DO SOMETHING FOR INDIA.
G B Pottekat (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:42 IST)
Who will be the next GenSec? Prakash Karat or yourself? Or will Biman Basu beat both of you?
Anita (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:42 IST)
Mr Yechuri: I have read the book of Rajni Palme Dutt, India Today. Will you agree with him that Britishers are the sole responsible for the current mess in India as they introduced the zamindari system in India?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:45 IST)
Your party knows it can never come to power in India. Why don't you shed your dead skin and come face to face with reality.
Murde Lal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:45 IST)
Anita, you are living with a mirage. Today's top CPI-M guys move around in cars, fly abroad for holidays, and often come from rich backgrounds.
Sunanda (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:47 IST)
Mr. Yechuri: You haven't answered the many queries raised on the performance of your govt. in WB - especially when you are trying to project Mr.Basu as the man with a magic wand. what about the numerous corruption cases that have surfaced there and been relegated to the dustbin ?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:47 IST)
Why dont you stop crying about communalism and start thinking about the millions of poor and hungry in India. Its high time you people stopped it.
yamin (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:48 IST)
hi sir
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:49 IST)
Iwant to know about Chandan Basu's escapades ?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:50 IST)
Do something for the country and, for god's sake, stop back-biting.
S S Jamal (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:52 IST)
What would be the consequences of a BJP government in India? Do you think they would impose a rigid Hindu regime on the people?
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:52 IST)
Mr SY-You have quoted Mr Adi Sankara ,better than Mr ABV , would have in any of his speeches. Why communism then? I am sure you would have worked wonders in another larger party , instead of trying to have the tail wag at all times. Secondly, in my opinion, religion in India should never be allowed on the streets, but should be strictly personal or at the most within the walls of a place of worship. Do you agree???.
G B Pottekat (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:52 IST)
Is it not true that you and the other Young Turks were responsible for Mr Jyoti Basu's exclusion from the prime ministership?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:52 IST)
HOW MANY POOR AND HUNGRY HAVE YOU REDUCED IN CALCUTTA OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS? I THINK YOUR PARTY HAS INCREASED THEIR NUMBERS.
Sunanda (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:53 IST)
You have said in an answer to the question of Mr. Rajesh that you consider the Congress as communal as the BJP - but you didn't have any problems while soliciting support with a communal Congress in 1996 (You did the same with the "communal" BJP in 1989, to bring "Mandalite" VP Singh to power). Isn't it double-talk ? Isn't "Mandalism" equally dangerous ?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:55 IST)
I AM SORRY TO SAY BUT THE CPI(M) IS NOT SERIOUS ABOUT ANY OTHER ISSUE EXCEPTING THE DEMOLITION OF THE MOSQUE.
Sunanda (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:56 IST)
Mr.Yechury : Let me assure you one thing - your CPI(M) and your fellow "secular" communists can never come to power in India nor can Mr. Jyoti Basu ever become PM of India. Only CPI(M) sycophants have high regard for him - not Indian Voters. Rest Assured you will be warming the opposition benches for your life. At best, you can become a pony-tail of 10, Janpath.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:57 IST)
JUST TAKING BIG DOES NOT MAKE GREAT LEADERS. WHY DOES NOT YOUR PARTY TAKE SOME HARD DECISIONS FOR THE COUNTRY'S SAKE?
Sunanda (Thu Feb 5 1998 8:59 IST)
Mr. Yechuri : you seem to be advising people to respect the people's mandate. Why didn't you yourself do so in 1996 - when the BJP has been continuously on a rise since 1984 - you term it as a "communal" party. Isn't it a insult to Indian voters' intelligence ?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:1 IST)
THE UF IS GOING TO BE THRASHED IN THIS ELECTION.WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS
Arnab (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:2 IST)
Tell us one thing : If UF or the Congress don't get a majority in the next elections, and the Congress asks the UF support to keep the BJP out - will you and UF support the Congress ?
nami (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:3 IST)
What does your party define 'secularism' as? there seems to be lot of confusion about this much talked about, discussed and argued about word.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:4 IST)
ITS HIGH TIME YOUR PARTY RESPECTED THE WISHES OF THE PEOPLE OF INDIA AND MAKE AN EXIT FROM THE POLITICAL SCENE FOR GOOD
Arnab (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:4 IST)
You seem to going silent for some time. Don't you have answers ?
Lionel (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:5 IST)
Mr SY-Do you attribute Chandan Basu's rise as a wealthy man to him being ultra-illustrious OR to him having his Dad as CM of WB.???.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:7 IST)
INDIA DOES NOT NEED YOUR STUPID IDEOLOGY. WHY DONT YOU FOLLOW THE WORLD? AS IT IS YOUR PARTY DOES NOT HAVE THE PEOPLE TO GET MASS SUPPORT.
wagh (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:7 IST)
What has your secular party has done in Calcutta ? W Bengal is considered as one of the worst business destination whereas it was next to only my "MUMBAI " just 50 years back. What is the guarantee that you won't do Bengal Of our Bharat Desh ?
nami (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:7 IST)
communism failed the Russian people. In what way is our Indian 'communism' different that you hope to deliver goods to the common man?
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:11 IST)
ITS HIGH TIME YOUR PARTY DID ANY OTHER THING THAN BASHING THE BJP. WHY DONT YOU REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE THE SINGLE LARGEST PARTY AND GOING TO BE SO OVER THE NEXT SO MANY YEARS.
nami (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:14 IST)
I think religion makes you a better human being; again unfortunately the word 'religion' itself has assumed different meanings - to be twisted by politicians as they like! I think before rejecting it, scientific minded people wshould thoroughly study it! What a tragedy to be the hiers of 'sanatana dharma' and not know anything about it! Our country's ills are because of this ignorance! - the legacy of the moghuls and the Britishers!
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:14 IST)
WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT THE ISLAMIC NATIONS? WHY DOES YOUR PARTY FAVOUR THE MUSLIMS IN W.BENGAL?
LionelR (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:15 IST)
But Mr SY-With so much of religion around, can we even dream of being secular. That was a dream sold to us by the people who got us our freedom. But we can change now and accept that we are a Hindu Country and allow the majority to rule us. I am sure the minority will be better off than what we are under this concept of secularism , people/idealists like you are still talking about.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:16 IST)
MR. CHANDAN BASU IS A OFF SPRING OF CPI(M) GOVERNANCE AND YOU VERY KNOW WHAT!
LionelR (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:17 IST)
So what if he disagrees with his father's politics. He is still getting richer because of his CM Dad. Is it not???. A frank answer please!!-I am sure that is allowed in an Indian Communist party???.
sk (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:19 IST)
WHY IS WEST BENGAL SO BACKWARD AS FAR AS ECONOMIC ACTIVITY GOES? IT HAS SAURAV GANGULY TO SHOW FOR ITS ACHIEVMENTS IN THE LAST 50 YEARS.
nami (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:19 IST)
I am sure BJP is also for 'secularism' as has been practised by Indians down the line. What makes you keep on dubbing them as 'communalists'? I think all of you politicians should bring out a dictionary for these often misquoted terms, with common meanings! The people hurt by these words are the unfortunate masses!
nami (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:21 IST)
Bye folks! It has been an interesting chat! I am happy these days people are more forthright in their questions and answers! Hail to Free India! Hope the Indira Gandhi tribe will not come back to power and declare 'Emergency"
jay (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:34 IST)
Hai Sita Ram, Have read Sita Ram Goel's perversion of Indian political parlance, where the author convincingly argues that Communism is an Euro-centered imperialistic ideology pestering Bharat. What would you say about it????
chigurupati (Thu Feb 5 1998 9:40 IST)
Mr.Sy you better wind up your party. You don't have any understanding of India, its values, ethos, morals and philosophy. You follow either Russia or China. Yours is nothing but dogma (like the Mohammadan religion) and blind hatred. You don't allow India to go in the same path as China is going with regards to economy and policy towards us.
All the leaders of the CPI(M) are pigmies. They have no global view. Their thinking is at the village level. How can your party unite India and its people when you talk always against Indian values and culture, class struggle etc. Indian values (Hindu) are always universal, noble, tolerant, peace-loving, non-violent and, in fact, sacred.
Where on earth people consider a women as noble and sacred and worship her as Saraswathi, Lakshmi and as Durga. It is wrong to consider Hinduism as religion. The name itself is given by foreigners just like the name of India. You hate everything western not realising your ideology itself is of western origin.
Where is science in your ideology? You always manufacture figures (remember USSR and now China). They always put out wrong figures and lies. There is no religion in the Indian's day to day thinking, there is no place for fanaticism and fundamentalism in their attitudes.
India will never be a religious country. Indian culture is most progressive and liberal. Being an Indian you should know this by now. The need of the hour is the BJP govt to take India into the 21st century.
