'I will try and become an all-rounder for India'

Bombay, March 28, 2200 pm: The Indian team had just flown down from Pune, where they had lost the second One Day International against Australia. Despite the whole day's play, Harbhajan Singh was all keyed up for The Rediff Chat.

Harbhajan Singh : Hello friends! I m here to answer your questions. Please shoot.

ruchir : bajju, what do you think about india's loss today at pune
Harbhajan Singh : I think the run-outs cost us the match otherwise the result of the matchwould have been something else.

rkjoshi : please tell about your strategy against ponting
Harbhajan Singh : I try to get him to defend. He is a little shaky in his defence and jerks at the ball. Also when he comes in early he gives more chances to the close-in fielders.

obgani : how could you allow hayden to sweep through the whole test series? Is it always difficult to set a field for the sweep or was it a team decision not to set one? Also,why dont you come around the wickets to left handers,especially hayden,right away and not wait for 2-3 overs? That also increases your chances of getting LBW decisions and also your first slip should be a little more square.
Harbhajan Singh : He was playing the sweep well and of all the cricketers that have played the game he plays the sweep shot the best. It was difficult setting the field for him. He was sweeping the ball through mid-on and the entire leg-side including fine-leg.

sharmila : Bhajan, whom do you think is the best best cricket player in the world?
Harbhajan Singh : Sachin Tendulkar. He has all the time and patience which is the most important thing for a batsman.And there is no shot in cricket that hecan't play. And he plays everyshot perfectly.

arun_34 : Hey! really, it is A SHOWTIME! which Australian batsman u like to bowl to
Harbhajan Singh : Steve Waugh. He can handle any position in a match from any position since he is a senior player and he is the best player in the world. It is a challenge to bowl to him. I really enjoyed getting his wicket.

sachinsteve : DOES GANGULY BEHAVE RUDELY?
Harbhajan Singh : That is a lie. He has never behaved rudely with me.

desi : bhajju, do u bowl any differently for one-dayers ? how come u dont get wickets in one-dayers ?
Harbhajan Singh : In one-dayers there are not so manyclose-in fielders as compared totests. Also in one-dayers there are only10 overs to bowl and the main thought is todry the runs. If you stem the runs then the wickets will come eventually.

Gautam : What is the meaning of ur name , HARBHAJAN
Harbhajan Singh : One who remembers and praises God all the time. I think that is what my name means.

addie : please answer me..what wud u do if u were to bowl to tendulkar?
Harbhajan Singh : I would see what form he is in. Then I will set the field accordingly. If he is very good form then I will have one slip, and one short-leg and the spread the field. And if I am bowling well then I will pull my fielders up.

CricFan : Hi Bajju, Congratsandbest wishes to u. THanks fortaking questions. What will you dosothat u dont become likeManinder-where ODI's spoilt his wkttaking ability?
Harbhajan Singh : You should not try to take wickets.You should just bowl well and the rest follows.

qwetr : BHAJJU WHATS YOUR FAVORITE DISH?
Harbhajan Singh : I love rajma-chawal,especially if it is home-made.

obgani : shouldnt you have tried to make guys (hayden especially) play on the off side. Commentators like Chappel were stressing on this. Do they ever tell you such things in person?
Harbhajan Singh : I wasn't listening to the commentary but now that you have suggested I will try a field on the off-side as well and bowl there. And thank you very much for the suggestion.

saavi : Harbhajan, now most of the punjabi gals will be looking forward to meet you..how do u feel????
Harbhajan Singh : Even I am looking forward to meeting them.If you have any punjabi or any other girl in mind please let me know.Thanks

Harbhajan Singh : Jaroor atti hai jee. Main jo khel raha hu unki duwao se khel raha hu. Aur mujhe yakeen hai ki wo mujhe kahi na kahi se dekh rahe honge.

Rajiv : Harbhajan ji , you are my hero.I have a suggestion, continue toi pay attention to your batting and i expect to see you as Inida's best all-rounder.
Harbhajan Singh : Thank you very much. I will try to become an all-rounder for India. I am a good batsman anyway.I have good performances indomestic league.

Steve : what are your thoughts on sledging? Do you sledge too, Mate?
Harbhajan Singh : I think there should be a limit to sledging although it happens when you are on the field.I don't really sledge.

Harbhajan Singh : I am not chasing anyone although I do like some actresses.I like Sonali Bendre and Malaika Arora.

Harbhajan Singh : All are thinking cricketers. All think about their game and play likewise. Yes, I am also a thinking cricketer.

Harbhajan Singh : God Alone knows what I would have been. Have never thought about it ever.

Harbhajan Singh : No, I don't have any. Please find me one.

Harbhajan Singh : I would like to have 300 Test wicketsand also to play for the country for as long as possible.

Harbhajan Singh : Are you from Pepsi Co. I don't know about it yet, how do you know about it?

Rileen : Who's the most difficult batsman to get out in your opinion ?
Harbhajan Singh : All are difficult batsmen to dismissin international cricket. It dependswho is playing well on a given day.I would say Sachin Tendulkar is the most difficut batsman to dismiss.

Harbhajan Singh : I have no interest in politics. Thanks

Harbhajan Singh : I speak a lot with Gilchrist. Also speak with Ponting and we share a good rapport.They play tough cricket on the ground but otherwise they are good blokes.Gilchrist is the best of the lot.

AmitCricketFan : bajju, what has been your greatest moment in your cricket life - hatrick, or scoring the last 2 important runs, or 4 six-wicket hauls?
Harbhajan Singh : All three were great moments for me.The hat-trick was great becasue no other INdian had ever claimed one in Test cricket.The two runs were important becae we wouldn't have won the test otherwise and the seris thereafter.The 4 six-wicket hauls were good for my career after my comeback. I am happy that my hard work has helped the Indian team.

gordon : What other sports do you play besides Cricket to keep fit.
Harbhajan Singh : I play badminton because my brother is the coach in Jalandhar.Also I like to play snooker and table-tennis.

rajnish : which one is ur favourite counrty,u woul like to tour?
Harbhajan Singh : I would like to go to Australia. I have been there and I have had fun there. Theweather is great, the people are too good.

Chintu : Bajju, your comments about budding Punjabi players, Reetinder Singh SOdhi, Ricky & Yuvraj
Harbhajan Singh : Sodhi is very hardworking and it hurts thathe is not in the team. I will pray that he comesinto the team as soon as possible.I have seen few batsmen as attacking as Yuvraj Singh.I hope he will bring laurels to the mation. Sodhi, Yuvraj and I have been childhood friends and I will be happy if we can play together for the country and win matches.

rock99 : bhajan what do u wear on ur hand that silver thing
Harbhajan Singh : All sardars wear it even I do. It is a kada and it is a religious ornament.

ismukund : what has been the best accolade you have recieved so far after the recent performances?
Harbhajan Singh : When I received the man-of-the-match award everyone from the team has signed on them. Ganguly wrote: "You have done it for us." That feels good.

Girish : harbhajan what is ur most worst moment in ur cricket life
Harbhajan Singh : When I was accused of being called a 'chucker' and when I was expelled from the academy.

SPJ11 : WHO ARE YOUR GURUS IN CONTEMPORARY CRICKET
Harbhajan Singh : There are no gurus in cricket. There have been great cricketers and theer will be even greater than them. You can talk to the greats and learn from them. And that I am doing.

GAVASKAR : who is your greatest friend in the Indian Team?
Harbhajan Singh : All are my friends. Yuvraj is my best friend since we have been childhood friends.Also Srinath is my best friend.
