When it comes to choosing Tala, how do you do it? In Kannodu, the Tala beauty comes form the Eduppu, the Abheri ragam, Jathis and Katpana Swaras.....How did you envision this. WHat did you think of Shankar's picturisation? What inspired your choice of THAVIL? Did you sample the Thavil, for the Rolling beats? For Kayil Mithakkum Kanavaa Nee....from Ratchagan, you chose Kanda Chaapu and Saraswathi....excellent choice...did you fit the words to the song or vice versa?

do u think that the usage of synthesized sound makes a song seem less creativity. for example with systhesized beats, other artist are prone or could have used the same beats. in this case listeners may mistake or think that the whole song was copied. Like the rythm in telephone manipol from Indian (many of my friends in the US commented that the song sound like "i saw the sing" from ace of base, even though the tune was different)

Dil Se credits includes somebody playing flamenco guitar. I thought that you had used flamenco guitar in "Maana Madurai" from Minsaara Kanavu. No credits were listed. Was it played using a keyboard ?

No Das! ARR did not compose. in Madrass DD there sis a children's programme called Wonder Baloon. ARR with few other instrumentalist (way back in 83) played that song in instrumental. ARR played that song in keyboard. one fanstatic drummer played Ilamay idho idho in Drums. i was just confirming this to ARR

Mr. Rahman, for sometime now people in India have had a Inferiority complex regarding Indian music in lieu with western music. Although in my opinion i have found great creativity, depth and complexity in Music of such MDs as Illayaraja (where language has been the greatest barrier in showing his command in music). Has it always been tradition to look to the west for the current trends even though music produced in India doesn't affect the people there.

I am sure this question has been asked by many people what is your most favorite song. what are you thoughts about Illayaraja.. If you would sing a song to your wife what would that be... People have always complained that you copy a lot of music from western and all that.To me as long as it is good to hear and has been refurbished to make it more local to our people and they enjoy it and most importantly you dont claim it to be your creation I dont see any problem with it....

ARR : When you played music for ROJA did you ever feel that people might not like it...The way the songs sounded Even I did not initially... We were in College when one of our guys bought this new cassette and said lets listen to ROJA. After listening all of us were looking at each other...We couldnt really enjoy it first time but as time went we started likin it a lot... I find most of your songs are that way... But what i don't like is the multi lingual music. what is good in hindi is not good in tamil. for eg, kuchi kuchi rakkamma sucked in hindi. now recently, the song thaka thayya thayya in tamil sucked . the hindi was a master piece. don't you your audience will reduce if trying to do multi lingual . i would appreciate if u could strike a balance in them.

Hi, I am Srinivas Vemuri. I have listened to a lot of your music. My favorite song of yours is "Azhagu" from Pudhiya Mugham. The first interlude of the song is just stupendous (violin floating over a classical aalapana). Q1 What was your inspiration when composing this? Q2 I also love the Western Classical music of Thiruda Thiruda (esp "Veera bobbili kotalo" and "Kotha Bangaaru lokam". Why have you stopped using Western Classical style in your music. Q3. I am well aware of the fact that your music sounds very different from EVERY other composer in India or abroad. But, what I do not understand is that your musical style has no resemblance to that of Ilayaraja, with whom you have worked. Do you consciously try not to show any influence of IR?
