The Jaya Bachchan Chat

Being away from her grandchild makes Mrs Bachchan grumpy. And then, her son had just refused to escort her to dinner. But as the chat progressed, she became first friendly, then playful, then positively giggly. All in all, she had a great time with the chatters all.

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:48 IST)
Hi everyone, I tried my best to avoid this journey from Juhu to Kemps Corner, but...young gentleman here, says he's "guilty.. kill me kill me!" They want to photograph me as a proof for you all but I don't want to be photographed becaaaase...juuust hahaha:-)

S K Rao (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:46 IST)
Mrs Bachchan: Is this a one-off film, or just the beginning of another stint in showbiz?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:50 IST)
S K Rao: Hopefully another stint if the producer manages to make some money and the audience like my work and want me back on the screen!

Guddi (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:40 IST)
Hello Ms Bachchan...people still remember you as Jaya Bhadhuri. Now that you are back to acting again, would it disturb you if people still called you that?

Guddi (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:50 IST)
Ms Bachchan, like Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, do you think all mothers are so oblivious to their son's activities? Or they don't want to think that their sons are doing something out of the ordinary and display an ostrich behaviour? You are a mother and seem to be very close to your children. What do you think?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:53 IST)
Guddi: No it would not disturb me to be called by my maiden name. The answer to your question have you seen the film? The mother in Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa is not oblivious to her son's activities. And this is the reason for her wanting to rediscover her son. She is very remorseful as well.

Srirekha (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:55 IST)
Ms Jaya Bachchan: All your life you have played bourgeoisie roles. How do you feel to play a role which has Marxist leanings?

sunita nair (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:44 IST)
All know you as an extraordinary actress but you are also an extraordinary 'woman'. Is this the outcome of good upbringing or strength of character.

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:57 IST)
Srilekha: Not really. I'm in one of those not-keen-to-do-anything moods, because I have to go out for dinner and my son refuses to escort me. *can-you-believe-that-look!*!:-)
.....Sunita Nair: Thank you for the compliment. I don't think I'm an extraordinarily strong person, I am like many other women or a mother like so many of my age. The strength certainly is from your upbringing, education your environment at home and years of experience.

Amrit Singh (Mon Mar 23 1998 7:57 IST)
Will you be acting with your son in his debut film? And why have you chosen J P Dutta? I am sure his dad's word carried the day against yours!

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:0 IST)
Amrit Singh: Nooo! I will not be acting in J P Dutta's Akhri Mughal. I have always admired JP's work and courage to tackle difficult, challenging subjects. And lastly the decision is actually, believe it or not, 'unanimous' BUT Abhishek has the last word, we are talking about a career of a 22 year old boy, not 16. Okay!

Srirekha (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:0 IST)
Jayaji: How come your Hindi is so good though you belong to a Gujarati family, if I am not mistaken?

Princess (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:0 IST)
Jayaji, what about reports that you have returned to the marquee to keep afloat a sinking ABCL? Are the reports of its financial condition true? Can you give us the *real* picture, please?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:5 IST)
Srilekha: You are certainly mistaken. I am NOT a guzzu! (hope you don't mind);-)I am of Bengali origin but was born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh. I hope that's enough to tell you why my Hindi is good.
.......Princess: Hi Princess, you seem to be knowing a lot more about ABCL than the vice-chairman of the company. I have done Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa for pure love and regard for the art. Moreover this is not a project which can bail ABCL out (if it is sinking as per your knowledge).

sonzy (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:5 IST)
Hello Ms Bachchan, how about a sequel to your movies like Guddi and Mili, Mili Part II or something...That would be a landmark in bollywood won't it be.

rajesh (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:4 IST)
Jayaji, I am a fan of you and Amitabhji. I have seen 'mili' several times and enjoyed it, of course 'abhimaan' too. I am curious to know one thing, What was your reaction when amitji did some 'phuhad' role e.g, the 'Lawaris' song etc. ?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:9 IST)
Sonzy: I like your name. If, as suggested by you, sequels are made of the films named Guddi and Mili, they will have to change the title, Buddhi and 'Phir acting Karne Chali'. CORRECT?:-)
.........Rajesh: Though the Laawaris song is a traditional song for UP, I think Amitji does not look a very attractive person in a woman's gear. Specially, he's too tall to look like a woman.

Guddi (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:13 IST)
Ms Bachchan...what did you think of Mrityudaata?

Sheela (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:12 IST)
Ms Jaya Bachchan: Do you feel like acting with Amitji again like you did in 'Abhimaan'?

Priya (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:12 IST)
Hello Jayaji, I heard that you have become a grandmother recently. Do you feel that it will bring a new dimension in your acting (like maybe you won't feel shy if you have to act older, grandmotherly roles) ?

abid (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:12 IST)
HOW DO YOU RATE YOURSELF AS AN ACTRESS AND A WIFE

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:19 IST)
Guddi: I have seen worse films, it wasn't that bad. Am I being unfashionable by not saying it was bad?
........Sheela: I would love to, can you suggest a good subject?
.........Priya: I have just been offered a film where I will be playing a grandmother to a little girl if the project gets going. I'm not afraid of playing any age as long as I suit it...
ABID: My name is JAYA Bachchan. Don't you think you should ask my husband? The wife part? And the actress you should be able to answer if you have seen any of my movies.

pummya (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:18 IST)
Hi Ms. Bachchan, If I remember right, you were the chairperson of the Children's Film Society or something like that? What do you think will be your contributions towards children's films in future?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:25 IST)
Pummya: You're right, it was the National Centre of Films for Children and Young People (NCYP). Maybe a regular chat with them through the Internet.... I would love to do a film with children for children. Maybe Sound Of Music. What do you think?

GPR (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:25 IST)
Hello Jayaji, I am logged on from USA and just trying to have a couple of words with u.

Deepak (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:21 IST)
Jayaji, do you find some questions irritating or offensive?

pummya (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:24 IST)
Does Amit STILL get irritated when you organize HIS table?

Guddi (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:23 IST)
Ms Bachchan... Didn't you want your daughter to be an actress? Or was she not encouraged? She is beautiful, tall, and has two great actors for her parents....

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:29 IST)
GPR: Hi, how you doing? What's your question?
.............Deepak: Not so far:-)
.......Pummya: I have STOPPED trying any such thing. 25 years is a long time to learn.
..........Guddi: No she never showed any interest. Though she is a great clown at home. But a complete introvert like her father. I would have been very happy to encourage and support her if she wanted to act.

JYOTI PREM (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:20 IST)
Hello, Are u planning on comeback to the film world. Do u have any other movie in hand. Has 1084 been released in Bombay? I have heard that u have become a grandma. What did u name your granddaughter? Would you like to play Abhishek's mom in some movie some day?
Jyoti

JYOTI PREM (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:28 IST)
Please, please,pleeeeeeese reply my question.
Jyoti

Savita (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:27 IST)
Namastey Jayaji

charu (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:27 IST)
Jayaji, what do you feel is the future of Sonia Gandhi in politics? Also, what do you think of the congress party for which, you once canvassed so much?

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:34 IST)
Jyoti Prem: The boys in Rediff are saying 'aapki lottery lag gayi."
I would love to act with Abhishek in a movie someday. My granddaughter's name is 'NAVYA NAVELI NANDA' the rest of the questions you will get from the newspapers. Please get into the habit of the reading papers too.
...........Savita: Namaste.
............Charu: I am not interested in politics. My best wishes will always be with Mrs Sonia Gandhi in whatever she does whether I like it or not.

GPR (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:34 IST)
Jayaji, what do you think of the political scenario in India? u see millions of rupees spent every year for election is not going to help our country develop. Hopefully BJP government should serve a full 5 year term..

astrix (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:33 IST)
Jayaji, are you not interested about saying anything about Bengali cinema

JADAPUR (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:33 IST)
are u still involved with the children film festivals ? What do u think of Hyderabad at the permanent venue? Did u approve it ? AND YES SOUND OF MUSIC WILL BE A GOOD MOVIE TO MAKE. ALL WE NEED IS A GOOD DIRECTOR, WHY NOT DUB S-of-M into Hindi and other langs?

DS (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:31 IST)
Jayaji, Good evening from New Jersey...
Do you think you could ever be nominated for the Oscars??
DS

Ms Jaya Bachchan (Mon Mar 23 1998 8:39 IST)
GPR: Pits! Zilch! Trash. I don't care which party comes into power but really hope whichever is the ruling party, it completes a 5 year term.
........Astrix: You haven't asked me anything about Bengali cinema so how can I say anything.
...........Jadapur: I think Hyderabad is a very good venue for the film festival and I was in chair when this proposal put forward and approved by the Chief Minister. Good director, sure, but dubbed...NO no no!
........DS: No Chance! There is no harm trying though. But which movie?
