mahachandar (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:54 IST)
Neelakshi, if they do that again. I think in future there will be no more loan to pak. and will be announced as a terrorist country.
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:54 IST)
Somehow, I think the US leaders know they are actually dealing with the Pak Army, with Sharif being the front man; So the generals will ditch the mujaheedins and put the blame on sharif
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:55 IST)
pradeep: Using upper case is *extremely* rude
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:55 IST)

aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:1 IST)
sir, rather than our troop climbingup the mountains why cant we use a helicopter assault team
Anit C (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:2 IST)
if so,is it not failure on the part of the intelligence network ?
Patriot (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:2 IST)
Sir, if we do not have a settlement soon, and are forced to cross loc..and we can i beleive successfully, would we again have to go back..under pressure

sir, we keep hearing that the casualty figures on our side are understated (factor of over 3) I hope this is untrue..but is there some truth to this
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:8 IST)

patriotic (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:11 IST)
Sir, is the credibility or otherwise of the Pak PM relevant , if it seems he really has no control over his army
anisha (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:11 IST)
Sir You have lost cuple of aircrafts outside kargil zone.Wht is the cause of this. Are these aircrafts are very old and not functioning prperly or the pilots are nervous because of war phobia and not able to control the aircraft. Its really amazing that IAF is losing aircrafts at such rate??
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:11 IST)
sir incase Pak does withdraw how do we intend on insuring that it will not repeat such an act of outrage
anisha (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:11 IST)

sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:13 IST)
anisha: military aircraft crashes in peactime are not that uncommon, though I dont know the comparitive stats across countries.
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:13 IST)
sir, can the pak radars pick up our aircrafts and warn the intruders before hand
patriotic (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:14 IST)
Sir, is the credibility or otherwise of the Pak PM relevant , if, as it seems, he really has no control over his army
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:15 IST)
Thanks for the thumping answer.. maybe that suggests that senior staff require diverse (perhaps mutually exclusive) skillsets (persuaders vs planners or strategists)
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:15 IST)
sir, please tell me wether our pilots achieve complete surprise or do thepak radars detect them early enogf to warn the intruders
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:18 IST)
sir ,what i meant was not paratroopers ,but an helicopter assault force please enlighten us on the parameters of such an attack and the air forces role in it
bbkkka (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:18 IST)
hello sir
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:18 IST)
sir do we face a threat of nuclear war as the pak govt. has no control over its army and it is said that pak army has its fingers on the N-button.
Ashwin (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:19 IST)
Hello? Is the group captain here?
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:19 IST)

aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:19 IST)
sir have you ever flown in this region and if so whatis your personal evaluation of the flying condition
bbkkka (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:20 IST)

anisha (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:21 IST)

sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:26 IST)
anisha: you dont really have to type in yellow and repeat urself ad infinitum...
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:28 IST)
Group Captain Ganesh, Is there a question you would like to address but havent been asked :-) ?
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:28 IST)
sir,is it true that we are consulting russians on tactics to evade the stinger
bbkkka (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:28 IST)
sir, in case of a war are we capable of fighting pakistan? during a war can we use nuclear weapons?
Veeresh Malik (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:28 IST)
Sir, it is accepted that our armed forces are fighting for the glory of the flag. If they die while they are at it, a grateful nation wraps their remains in the same flag and sends it back. And then, if the family of the dead person chooses to try and fly that flag, under an old rule from the British days, that family can go to jail as it is illegal for Indians to fly the Indian flag in India!! Comment??
ani (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:29 IST)
So you do agree that we have a problem wth equipment since you use the words "average equipment"
bhoot (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:29 IST)
Captainjee, Namaste ansd welcome
bbkkka (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:31 IST)
sir can u please answer my questions
bhoot (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:32 IST)
Veeresh, we here tpo talk about the Kargil crisis and not some silly anomalies in the Indian constitition. This is not Fali S Nariman you are chatting with, it's a military captain. Why dont you jest take the flag and temporarily shove it right up where the sun dont shine..?
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:32 IST)
sir, besides the f-16 and cobras which other advanced air craft does pak. hav
sanjay dheer (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:33 IST)
how long would Pakistan be able to sustain Indian attack in the event of war breaking out??? Indian victory i am sure you will agree is inevitable.
ani (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:34 IST)
Sir Do you agree then that we have a problem with our equipment ?
deshbhakt (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:34 IST)
Gr. Capt. what was exact operation carried out for capturing Tiger hills ? How many aircrafts, which ones? etc etc COuld you detail us on these things?
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:34 IST)

deshbhakt (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:38 IST)
How can one enroll in IAF if he gets 50% marks in 10th std. (During my time I did not have have body to guide).
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:39 IST)
sir, there is a very disturbing report which suggests that the eyesight of our jawans is being adversely affected due to dearth of snow glasses is this true
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:39 IST)
sir , i read an article on the poor stateof maintanance of our air force is it true and to what extent
Veereshmalik (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:39 IST)
Dear Bhoot: If you had the faintest clue on how relevant this is, your IQ would be more than your waist measured in inches . . . so vamoose!
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:40 IST)
deshbhakt, u still have the 12th to make up!!
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:41 IST)
hey veeresh and bhoot don't fight.
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:41 IST)
neelakshi what our jawans need are anti glare glasses which incidently the paks have
sanjay dheer (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:43 IST)
Sir, in the air campaign against the intruders in Kargil why are n't we using the sohisticated fighter aircrafts and only relying on the good old MIG 21s and MIG23's?
ani (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:44 IST)
Group Captain Sir , u hardly seem to be doing any talking ! so please speak up and answer a few questions sir !
sanjay dheer (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:44 IST)
hello,
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:46 IST)
sir can you enlightenus a bit on the cobra
deshbhakt (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:47 IST)
Neelakshi: I am talking about some info., not me personally(I think you are too immature to understand simple sentences, go back to school)
veereshmalik (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:47 IST)
Dear Gr.Capt Ganesh, as rep of the IAf here, and on behalf of my late brother also ex-IAF, I want to know: if he fought for the flag why can't I carry and display it with pride and respect? Could you please ask the Chief of Air Staff to fix this silly rule from the Brit days that we cannot fly the Indian flag in India? Otherwise, why this hypocrisy...
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 5:48 IST)

SHASHANK (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:1 IST)

jay the captain isn't here yet but the Tiger hills report is true
jay (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:30 IST)

jay (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:32 IST)
MAY I KNOW WHO IS NEELAXI???????
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:32 IST)
hanu: are u for real ?
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:32 IST)
nope, jay only the bigoted outfits in pak are issuing such statements. But according to the latest news the army and the civilian leadership are together in the statement issued by sharif
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:33 IST)
er..i'm an indian isn't that enough
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:33 IST)
hmm, rediff seems to have pulled the tiger hill report.. one wonders ...

anit: cause they didnt know
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:35 IST)
its going to be real tough for Pak PM...
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:37 IST)
the http://armedforces.nic.in is quite informative..
Hanu (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:38 IST)
Since we have capture the Tiger Hills . Why not we now do the air attack as we are now within the five kilometer redius?
Hanu (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:38 IST)
Why the IAF do not use its latest fighter planes?
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:39 IST)
hanu: they use whatever is appropriate..
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:41 IST)
has anybody read the joint statement issued by the US and Pak
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:42 IST)
reports on it.. not the actual statement itself; have a link to it ?
Hanu (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:42 IST)
All of India is with you then you must cross the LOC. Is it right?
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:44 IST)
yeah here's the statement "President Clinton and Prime Minister Sharif share the view that the current fighting in the Kargil region of Kashmir is dangerous and contains the seeds of a wider conflict. "They also agreed that it was vital for the peace of South Asia that the Line of Control in Kashmir be respected by both parties, in accordance with their 1972 Simla Accord. "It was agreed between the President and the Prime Minister that concrete steps will be taken for the restoration of the Line of Control in accordance with the Simla Agreement. "The President urged an immediate cessation of the hostilities once these steps are taken. The Prime Minister and the President agreed that the bilateral dialogue began in Lahore in February provides the best forum for resolving all issues dividing India and Pakistan, including Kashmir. "The President said he would take a personal interest in encouraging an expeditious resumption and intensification of those bilateral efforts, once the sanctity of the Line of Control has been fully restored. "The President reaffirmed his intent to pay an early visit to South Asia."
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:46 IST)
going to play the devils advocate here: werent the "gains" in Siachen in the 80s controversial as well.. methinks this will come up in any Pak statement regarding withdrawal.
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:47 IST)
i wonder if the US will impose the condition of withdrawal of the Pak army for issuing the IMF loan to Pak
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:47 IST)
For Pak PM to show that he means business, he's got to order back the regular troops in a hurry.
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:48 IST)
On a more general note (pun intended), one wonders how long can Sharif last (politically).
MINI (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:49 IST)
DO YOU VISUALIZE A WAR IN NEAR FUTURE???
Patriot (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:50 IST)
Captain Ganesh, if there is no settlement soon , would we again have to give up gains if we cross the loc
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:50 IST)
i get the dirty feeling Pak will go back on its word once the loan is issued
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:51 IST)
patriot the captain isn't here yet
Patriot (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:51 IST)
thanks neelakshi
sriram (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:52 IST)
full fledged war is an expensive business and both countries know it.
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:53 IST)
yeah but sharif was viewing it from the economic point
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:53 IST)
is the capt. in
Neelakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 4:54 IST)
yeah but sriram we aren't dealing with a rational country here
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:4 IST)
sir do we face any danger along the gujrat and rajasthan border.
guru (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:4 IST)
I have a suggestion. I recently read that a prof. in IIT madras has developed a wireless internet modem. Why don't the armed forces use this instead of wireless which can be tapped by the enemy?
Roger (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:4 IST)
Hello ..Captain Ganesh I'd like to ask you question please ??
Sanjai K (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:4 IST)
Capt Ganesh: Isn't it true that India's repertoire of aircraft have nothing suited to the job of attacking enemy ground personnel? India has nothing comparable to the slow-moving and heavily-armoured A-10 Warthog.
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:4 IST)
neelakshi r u still there
Sanjai K (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:5 IST)
I was reading some of the latest articles by the knee-jerk liberal lobby, and was frankly quite disgusted.
guru (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:5 IST)
any new reverses for pakistan PM?
neeLakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:5 IST)
sir there was a report in the times of india about how the army intends on occupying kargil positions permanently i presume obviously aided by the indian air-force are we going use hi tech sensors and not depend so much on man power
neeLakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:6 IST)
hmmm jayom u weren't making fun of me were you?
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:7 IST)
sir, how useful is infra red in this region especially due tothe cold which will aid it and can pulse doppler radars be usedfor ground targets
SHASHANK (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:7 IST)
SIR MY FATHER IS A EX-AIR FORCE OFFICER AND SEEN MIG21 PERFORMANCE, BUT STILL I THINK THAT MIG-27 AND MIG-23 CAN DO A BETTER JOB THAN MIG-21 BIS
veeresHmalik (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:7 IST)
Group Capt: If not for the flag then for what else???????
Sanjai K (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:7 IST)
neeLakshi: what? there are no hi-tech sensors that can do that kind of work. That's preposterous. The stuff of science-fiction movies. In the real world, the situation requires that the border be permanently-manned.
jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:7 IST)
oh no not at all. u seem to be a intersting person. ok do u have icq..
neeLakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:8 IST)

jayom (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:9 IST)
is it neelakshi mann??
Sanjai K (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:10 IST)
guru: Well, the Pak PM may end up getting ousted, if he is seen as pulling the rug out from under his own mujahedin. That's the problem with erecting covert private armies. They are so lawless that they may come after you, if you rub them the wrong way.
neeLakshi (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:10 IST)
er...yes??? do i know you???
aniruddhas (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:10 IST)

You know, altho Rediff does have a pretty shoddy reputation as a news provider, I'd still expect Indians as a community to come up with a better crowd to ask questions to the IAF's spokesman.

NeeLakshi: Of course winning back territory that we should never have lost in the first place is not a breakthru. The politicians should be ashamed of being so weak and spineless, that they are leashing our troops, and forcing them to fight with one arm tied behind the back.
CHINTOO (Mon Jul 5 1999 6:32 IST)
