The Jagmohan Dalmiya Chatven hari (Wed Mar 5 22:01:29 1997 IST):
Mr. Dalmiya: you have not answered any of my questions. Perhaps they are inconvenient. But, all cricket lovers want to know about Rajesh Chauhan, about the lack of tour facilities in SA and biased treatment of Indian players. Also, I read a report that MCMillan of SA almost drowned a young boy in India because the boy was pestering him for an autograph. Why was this event if it occurred covered up by BCCI. Makarand (Wed Mar 5 22:02:04 1997 IST):
MR DALMIYA : HELPING GIBRALTAR IS NOT INDIA'S BRIEF BUT THAT OF ENGLAND ACCORDING TO THE ICC HANDBOOK. SO WHY SEND A COACH THERE FROM INDIA?...VOTECATCHING???????? vijayakar (Wed Mar 5 22:03:11 1997 IST):
CAn anyone in the BCCI question Kishen Rungta about his highhandeness?
or are they scared of the power blocks the Rungtas command JAGMOHAN DALMIYA (Wed Mar 5 22:03:53 1997 IST):
Ven: Rajesh Chauhan has not been called by Indian umpires. By initiating an inquiry in the midst of the season we will affect the career of the player. Therefore, immediately after the season is over his action will be evaluated. And if his action is found to be in order we shall take up the matter with the ICC to withdraw the doubt on Rajesh's action. Alternatively, we shall help Rajesh to improve his action.
Amit: It is a long list and cannot be answered here but you are welcome to correspond with BCCI and details will be furnished to you.
prashant.J.Kacharia (Wed Mar 5 22:03:58 1997 IST):
Mr. Dalmiya We are all curious to know as to how is it going to be done. I fyou can please elaborate on the steps taken to prepare fast pitches, , I shall be grateful to you vijayakar (Wed Mar 5 22:04:20 1997 IST):
Are you training future Dalmiyas and Bindras so that Indian cricket can stay in the hi tech age and not fall behind should your terms end? Makhan Seru (Wed Mar 5 22:04:35 1997 IST):
Mr. DALMIYA:
You seem to answer questions that suit your political agenda not cricket!!!!
Give answer or do not waste our time!!!!!
Makhan DHARMAR (Wed Mar 5 22:04:40 1997 IST):
will there be bigger tours with austrralia in the near furure vijayakar (Wed Mar 5 22:05:25 1997 IST):
Will BCCI consider benefit games for journalists? vijayakar (Wed Mar 5 22:05:25 1997 IST):
Will BCCI consider benefit games for journalists? JAGMOHAN DALMIYA (Wed Mar 5 22:07:57 1997 IST):
Vijaykar: The BCCI has decided at its last working committee meeting to ask the details from Pandit, Rungta, umpires, observer and managers of the two teams. The matter is under investigation and your question appears to be biased.
Vijaykar: Mr Gavaskar would be an ideal choice provided he spends some time in administration and I have no doubt, given his calibre he will be a most affective and succesful chairman provided he devotes his time exclusively for administration. Amit Karmarkar (Wed Mar 5 22:08:13 1997 IST):
Mr Dalmiya, will it be possible to telecast the selection meetings live on TV so that we all can see which points are 'discussed'? ven hari (Wed Mar 5 22:09:32 1997 IST):
Mr. Dalmiya: Thank you for clearing up the Chauhan situation. I agree with your decision. But it would be useful PR if cases like this are immediately cleared up. The Press has been asking this question for some time. Now, please let us all know why the BCCI is mum on the umpiring in SA and the sledging of Indian players and my Q on the current logic behind the rules in rain shortened games. Arithmetically, India should have won the third ODI in RSA on the basis of run rate. Amit Karmarkar (Wed Mar 5 22:11:16 1997 IST):
Mr Dalmiya, awaiting your response to my
questions... vijayakar (Wed Mar 5 22:11:23 1997 IST):
Making Srikkanth coach was unfair when a lot of cricket managers of state associations were in the line like Binny who fashioned Karnataka's triumph. HEMANT (Wed Mar 5 22:13:43 1997 IST):
DEAR MR DALMIYA: UNIVERSITY CRICKET KLIKE THE VIZZY TROPHY HAS PRODUCED IN THE PAST GREAT CRICKETEERS WHO HAVE SERVED THE COUNTRY. UNFORTUNATLEY ONE FINDS UNIVERSITY CRICKET IS DYING A SLOW DEATH. WHAT HAS THE BCCI DONE OR IS DOING TO REVIVE THIS TOURNAMENT??????????? Vivek Nayak (Wed Mar 5 22:13:43 1997 IST):
Mr. Dalmiya, why doesn't the BCCI back up it's players in a controversy. a lot of SA players have gone scott free
inspite of their continued agro on the field.
the manager says he has filed a report with the BCCI.
but indian players continue to get fined for almost nothing.
The SA board had withheld Donald's match fee, but since we did not file a report
he got off scott free. Please comment Indian (Wed Mar 5 22:14:18 1997 IST):
Sir, Why was Pankaj Dharmani dropped without even being given a chance to prove himself. mukesh (Wed Mar 5 22:15:27 1997 IST):
Good evening Sir,
From cricket fans point of view,we can create
true fast bowlers in India & on our on pitches.
I wonder if Board authorities are moving in the
direction of First preparing the pitches throught out all zones
maybe on non-intrenational venues first & hence
allowing our youngsters an opportunity to use
these bounce friendly tracks sothat they see
the results of their efforts and desire in our
own backyard rather than wait to see results
on forign soil.I guess if board has will to do it
they will find money to do it.Good luck to your
next bid on ICC. Ritesh (Wed Mar 5 22:16:16 1997 IST):
Hello Mr Dalmia.Could you give me one good reason why the selection commitee should not be comprised of former test players, and for the continuance of the quota system? JAGMOHAN DALMIYA (Wed Mar 5 22:16:22 1997 IST):
Vijayakar: If any proposal is received for a benefit match for journalists, it will definitely be considered within the framework of the BCCI's rules. Recently for the C K Nayadu award which ultimately went to Mr Hazare, the reputed journalist, Mr K N Prabhu, was one of the names very seriously considered.
Prashant: Again, the answer will be too long (for fast pitches) for this chat. However, in short we are calling experts from abroad, soil specialists from India, and one of the best curators in the world, Mr Burdett from Australia, to hold seminars, workshops and draw the syllabus for prospective curators. In our country we have botanists, horticulturists and agriculturists but no qualified curator. It is essential to have qualified curators backed by all facilities like proper soil, equipment and experience of former Test cricketers. For more details you may send your queries to the BCCI which will be answered promptly. Mahender Singh (Wed Mar 5 22:17:48 1997 IST):
Mr Dalmia now our board has enough money to set up some sort of cricket academy to bread young cricketers, specially fast bowlers. I hear only of couple of fast bowlers like Srinath, Prasad, Ganesh, Jhonson, Kuruvilla, Ankola who have made it to the top at their own against all odds on Indian pitches. Our board gives them few chances and then drops them, leaving them demoralised. With lack of any support, financial or otherwise many just lost in the wilderness. It is ok that you drop them when they don't perform at the international level, but why don't the board pick that pool of 5-6 fast bowlers and support them in terms of training and facilities so that they can bounce back and we have a sufficient number of reserves to cater to the situations like we are in today because of Srinath or otherwise also for the future.
Thanks HIREN (Wed Mar 5 22:18:04 1997 IST):
Should monaj prabhaker can take palce of shrinath? JAGMOHAN DALMIYA (Wed Mar 5 22:19:58 1997 IST):
Ritesh: Selection committee members are selected on a zonal basis for the simple reason that all the players in an individual zone can be watched by the selectors. Test cricketers would always be preferred as selection committee members but sometimes, particularly East Zone and Central Zone faces a dearth of Test cricketers in their zone. There is no quota system in the Indian team and it is the most suited campaign against the BCCI whoever wants to malign it or for sportslovers to take their anger out of disgust when the team loses.
EVERYONE: LAST TWO QUESTIONS

Dear Mr. Dalmiya, I wonder how Mr. Prabhus name was recommended for the C K Nayadu award when there are cricketers of repute hwo deserve it. If the BCCI want's to appease the journalistis commnity why does it not institute an award in the name of AFS (Bobby) Talyarkhan? Amit Karmarkar II (Wed Mar 5 22:21:18 1997 IST):
Mr Dalmiya, Is it possible to telecast the selection meeting live on TV so that we all can know what is discussed? late mog! (Wed Mar 5 22:21:31 1997 IST):
Sorry late, Mr Dalmiya, in the Raj Singh Dungarpur chat, you know, Lata Mangeshkar's b/f,
the brother of Sumer Singh said,in reply to certain questions on finances, that you would
answer them. Have you read the transcripts, and, if so, would you respond? Thank you, and I rest my case here, your honour Nikhil/Suparn.... ven hari (Wed Mar 5 22:23:45 1997 IST):
Dear Mr. Dalmiya: Thank you for answering some of our questions although you still have said nothing about umpiring in RSA etc. I think that Indian Cricket would be served best by having only players who have donned the India cap as selectors. How about arranging benifit matches for former India players like Umrigar, Borde,Adhikari and also for for former players who may be in need. S K Bhattacharya (Wed Mar 5 22:24:02 1997 IST):
Someone in the intl cricket establishment said
that Bindtra and Dalmiya have subverted
cricket in India, to the extent thnat matches
were awarded at your whim and pleasure. Do you agree? And
what about the PCA stadium controversy? What do you have to say about that? late mog! (Wed Mar 5 22:24:15 1997 IST):

Mahender Singh: Cricket academy is not only needed but it is very badly needed and that too as early as possible. The Board has initiated action and work on a cricket academy will commence within this year.
HEMANT: University cricket needs a revival and as a initial step, the year before last an international fixture against visiting team was resumed for Combined Universities. Since last September the Vizzy committee and working committee are regularly interacting on improvement of university cricket. The plan will be finalised shortly and will come in operation from the cricket season next year. shail (Wed Mar 5 22:26:41 1997 IST):
Mr Dalmiya: Why our team management not complain ICC about the Bad decisions our team has to face in overseas tour? In last RSA tour our players were fined for even small things. Will you ever take this matter with ICC? Makhan Seru (Wed Mar 5 22:26:47 1997 IST):
Mr. Dalmiya:
Thanks for some of the replies in the last few minutes. But, please address, what are the plans for talent search???
Makhan JAGMOHAN DALMIYA (Wed Mar 5 22:28:28 1997 IST):
Everyone: Thank you very much for a nice chat with you. Only regret is that I could not answer all the questions due to time constraints. I don't want to evade or bypass any question. You are welcome to write to me. And I shall try my best to answer your question through mail. I hope to have another chat with you shortly. Thank you very much. Good bye. late mog! what you learn in delhi:ask and you shall be bullshatted...
googly diya, but what to do, conceded match even

Thanks Mr Dalmia for the answer to my question. I have a suggestion to make. Why don't we recall Manoj Prabhakar for say 1 or 2 years to be played in the tests. He will solve two problems for the team. Number one the opener's place and second the third good quick bowler to support Srinath and Prasad. I think he will serve the team's cause for transition phase the team is going through right now and till a good opener and a third seamer establishes himself in the team. Prabhakar is atleast capable to score 40's , 50' and holds the one end meaning that we don't have to suffer collaps of both the makeshift openers in the very begining of the innings thus lifting some pressure from the middle order. Vivek Nayak (Wed Mar 5 22:40:04 1997 IST):
i think amit has raised a good point. the selectors have to owe
responsibility just like the captain and manager do. but instead when the team looses
the captain and manager get sacked but nothing happens to the selectors.
What does Ramakanth Desai mean by saying 'Give me one off-spinner who can
take wickets and i will select him' and all this inspite of the
fact tha twe have Rajesh Chauhan , Aashish Kapoor and now you decide to send
Noel Hotu Chainani (Wed Mar 5 22:41:41 1997 IST):
The Tamasha appears to be over! Does the BCCI have an email address??? Did anyone understand anything? I for one didn't. Most of it went over me. Everything was well rehearsed complete with the time restraints patch. Promises, promises and more promises, never to be fullfilled. Well that's the sad and sorry state of the Indian cricket administrators. That it has it's effect on the quality of Indian Cricket is history. Photographs: Atul Chowdhary
