Hello Mr Murali, its an honour to be able to interact with you sir. Today what inspires you to perform? Do you ever feel you wish to do something else but are not getting the chance?
Manav (Wed Sep 1 1999 5:59 IST)
Hello Dr Murali, please tell us about how you started your career to become one of the greatest Carnatic musicians in the world? And do you still rehearse as much?

hi
mahati (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:28 IST)
Hello! Is Dr. BMK there? It is sharp 10.30 EDT over here.
suresh (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:28 IST)
Namaskaram. Though I do not know much about classical music I listen to your music every day. My two year old son knows most of your kritis (those of trinity, Ramadas and Annamayya) by heart. I noticed that your style is unique. You give utmost importance to clarity in pronunciation and Bhava. I do not get the same satisfaction when I listen to any other vocalist. Its sad that not many persons are singing Ramadas or Annamayya’s kritis. Even you have very few keertanas of Ramdas (3 cassettes- one by HMV and two by Sangeetha) and Annamayya (2 or 3 cassettes). I request you to sing as many kritis of these two Bhaktas as possible. I do not think any other person can do justice to the kritis of these great persons. I am hoping that some day you will be honored with the highest civilian award in India – Bharat Ratna.
mahati (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:37 IST)
Glad to see you here sir.
mahati (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:41 IST)
Hello Shri Balamuraliji, I have seen people asking you questions, regardless of whether you are there or not. So let me also start.a) Who among the today's young musicians you like most? b)Who was your idol in your younger days?
mahati (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:44 IST)
Sorry for the repeat questions; My refresh was slow.
Padma (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:47 IST)
Namaste Balamurali Garu
Manoj (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:48 IST)
Dr Murali, why is Indian classical music MORE popular outside India while in India the young have no idea about our heritage? How can it be remedied and what can the government do to foster more talent?
yello (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:50 IST)
music lovers: have a question: how to identify a raaga?
Vidya (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:50 IST)
Sir, what do you think about classical singers turning into pop singers? Do you also plan to keep up with the times and cut a pop album?:-)
sree (Wed Sep 1 1999 6:55 IST)
Could you be more specific and name your sishyas. Do they have any recordings?
Music Fan (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:23 IST)
Sir what are your future plans?
c (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:25 IST)
Namskaram Balamurali garu. What in your opinion is the state of Carnatic music today? Is the art "live", i.e. are there new compositions? Will it survive without the infusion of new and fresh compositions?
Siddy (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:26 IST)
Is this chat over?
Sangeeta (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:29 IST)
good evening balamurli ji

bala muraliji , how can i tone my voice?
atlStang (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:35 IST)
Sri BM : I have heard people say that you are an artsite who sings with any accompaniments ( i mean violinists and mridangists who are not graded )... is that true? Doesn't it affect you?
Padmini (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:36 IST)
Sir, it is said that Lakshmi & Saraswathi (Wealth & Learning(intelligence) do not go together. But i dont agree with this. I feel both are mutually dependent. One comes with the Other. What is your opinion on this Balamurali Garu?
atlStang (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:37 IST)
Sri BM : Which is your most favourite raagam? Who do you admire as the best composer among the trinity? Do you sing songs of other modern composers?
atlStang (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:38 IST)
Sri BM : Do you have a liking for Jugalbandhis? Which in your memory is the best jugalbandhi concert you have given in india and outside india.
Sangeeta (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:38 IST)
sir Do you think that now a days except for certain esteemed musicians like you ,others are making a mockery of this great art ,like for example singing in marriage functions ,just to earn money by making a profession out of it ,in this scenerio is it possible to preserve the art in its purity, given that western music and pop is also making strong grounds,i hope my question is not too long
atlStang (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:39 IST)
SRI BM : Thanks for answering my questions...
atlStang (Wed Sep 1 1999 7:40 IST)

I have a question for you guys. How do you identify a raga. Lots of times, I listen to music and I can sing fairly well. I fail miserably in "Sangathulu". May be I am thinking music in too much scientific way!!!!
