'The bull market has started''The market is in a tight band now. It should not violate the 3100 level for the bull market to remain intact. Any breakout from the band will decide the future course', says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.
Desparate : Ramesh, what is the outlook of equity market in medium term? What is the downward risk right now? ayanshah : Mr. Damani, Macmillan got the trigger it needed today in form of FDI relaxation. Do you see it also getting delisted (buy back) in due course and thus lackluster movement of price for the time to come?? Ramesh S Damani : NO. I dont see it getting delisted. Mgmt has no plans for such, sagar : Dear Rameshji, do you think the bull market will start? structural bull market as they say,,,what is structural bull market? Ramesh S Damani : One in which all stock participated. In 2000, we had a tech bull market. Mainly tech shares participated. According to tech data, the bull market has started Desparate : Ramesh, why are FIIs hesitating to enter into the Indian market when there is a sign of economic recovery? Ramesh S Damani : In Dollar terms, the sensex is at 1994 levels. Net Net they have not made money. They may be buying in Korea etc vignesh : Dear sir, why is bel going down? Is there any unfavorable news? please clarify Ramesh S Damani : It is consolidating its gains. No new news. ayanshah : Rameshji, when south american countries like Brazil and Argentina go bust, then what kind of effect does it have on Indian stock market?? Ramesh S Damani : It helps Asia, the crisis in Latin America. However India is not opening up fast. sk : With refer. to answer of Question 1 , what band do you feel will decide the course of action Ramesh S Damani : THe lows are 3100, The highs are maybe 3500-3700. Market should not violate 3100 for the bull market to remain intact. ayanshah : Sir then what will be impact of FDI relaxation on Macmillan..Which script you think will be most benefited by this and thus you suggest buying... Ramesh S Damani : 3 scripts benifiting are Mid-day, Mcmillan, and Tata Infomedia. All were up sharply today. BASANTMAHESHWARI : BEL do you feel that it is consolidating before making a new move the Board meets next week to consider dividend. Can one expect Rs 7? Ramesh S Damani : I am expecting Rs 6 chengise : Ramesh, you were waiting for some news from tvs electronics about bpo, anything new there the stock seems consolidating Ramesh S Damani : They have started contract manufacturing in a good way. See strong growth. Should do Rs 4-5 for the fullyear. I still own it. chengise : your comments in United Phosphorus and CMC. Will CMC benefit from the TCS IPO Ramesh S Damani : UP is doing well. In 1-2 yrs CMC and TCS could merge sam : Do you see any more down side in Punjab Tractor and MTNL? Ramesh S Damani : No, they look attractive including SBI ankit : Sir, Indogulf is recovering 5 M.Tons of gold as a by product of copper smelting. Now that gold prices have gone up it will give boost of Rs 2.35 in EPS of the co. You think it is a wise investment? Ramesh S Damani : Market is favouring these kind of stocks so it will do well vignesh : Dear sir, name atleast two stocks to pick up in textile, auto, fertilizer, steel and cement? please dont ignore this q. Ramesh S Damani : In auto, Ashok Leyland. The other sectors I dont specialise in sambafan : Can i reenter BEML @90? Ramesh S Damani : They are doing well. I still own it. Also good target for disinvestment BASANTMAHESHWARI : When the rallly starts in the lesser fashionable industries like textile, Banks and penny steel stocks one feels lost. Should one convert a part of geom, infotec and eserve into banking stocks when the IT-enabled rallies again(I feel that the move has started from today or as you say conviction should be paramount Ramesh S Damani : I believe in conviction. ITES is going to show growth. This country could be a ITES superpower, so stick to it. alisa : Hi Ramesh, what significance would the FDI news have on Macmillan? Ramesh S Damani : It is good news. They can publish journals in India. Good long term promise chengise : Ramesh, what about ITI? Is it a candidate for disinvestment and can we invest Ramesh S Damani : Looks expensive ritu : Ramesh, don't u think that within last few weeks smart money has flown from IT to a few cyclicals and commodity stocks such as Tata Tea, BILT and TNPL? Ur opinion on these stocks? Ramesh S Damani : That has been apparent. sk : Any new stocks to enter in at current levels , even BEML has closed in positive territory after a long time - any call on any shares Ramesh S Damani : i recently bought GOLDIAM. It trades on the BSE only. It is cum 1:1 Bonus and Rs 3 div. It is cheap and in the jewellery business ticker : Satyam seems to be hovering around 205 - 220's for sometime ?. Do u foresee it going up ? Ramesh S Damani : Nothing immedidate. Wait for 1-2 quarters, sk : With reference to ITES , ramesh, but it seems as of now no one is interested in these stocks everyone is behind Old Economy - any call on any old economy shares. Ramesh S Damani : Market pays only for growth. If ITES will show growth investors will return. Also they have had a good run up. kareena : CAN U TELL ME THE SHORT TERM PROJECTIONS (1 month) AND LONG TERM PROJECTIONS (1 YEAR ) for hinduja tmt and geometric Ramesh S Damani : I dont make projections BASANT : Have you bought into Punjab Tractors or any other PSU/IT enabled scrips of late? Do you recommend adding onto IT&T and BEL at current levels (Birla was again a big buyer in BEL in the month of May) Ramesh S Damani : I hold BEL and IT&T. Not added. I have not bought P.T. but it looks good. vignesh : Dear sir, regarding karur vysya bank any idea about bonous record date? and rights is only after bonus or simultanious one? is it worth buying @500? please tell me Ramesh S Damani : Looking at the values of Vyasa bank yes. No date announced yet. kareena : IF U CANT MAKE A PRICE PROJECTION THEN HOW CAN U BE SURE OF ITES Ramesh S Damani : Did any one project INFY at Rs 12,000 or Arvind Mills at Rs 3. Let the market decide. We like to buy good stocks in good businesses. ritu : Apart from Ashok LeyLand, anything u bought last week? Ramesh S Damani : Goldiam I bought, as said earlier. ayanshah : Rameshji what is D- broking telling on selling in ITES scripts..Do you see the reaction getting over in them soon or see more decline before up move begins again? Ramesh S Damani : Wait for this qtr results. I think they will be good. sk : I think so your last call was TVSE around March which yielded good return - after that no call - any good stocks u will recommed as of now Ramesh S Damani : Goldiam and Mcdowell are 2 scripts I have recently added too. nitesh : Sir where can I see the transcript of this chat if i miss it Ramesh S Damani : It comes in 1-2 days., Look at the archives of chat., sk : Goldiam is arounf 60/- pl. confirm Ramesh S Damani : Around 70 ritu : Ramesh, what could be the possible triggers for the SBI scrip in the coming days? Do u see it breaking the crucial resistance at 262 in the near term? Do u suggest buying its july future? Ramesh S Damani : Its hard to see. Value must be unlocked. SBI is cheap in my opionion. It has the potential to lead the PSU stocks higher at the second phase. kareena : Why do u stand downstairs at the entrance of Rotunda after market hours. It looks cheap Ramesh S Damani : I enjoy meeting the traders and other brokers. It is refreshing,. sk : Ramesh, in view of today's development any script that you recommend for buying - do u feel macmilan got the trigger it needed and may now soon cross 350/- again Ramesh S Damani : Needs a couple of qtrs of good results. vignesh : Dear sir, geometric @480/- or karur vysya @500/- which one is best to buy? Your valuble comment please. Ramesh S Damani : I would buy Geometric ayanshah : Sir, Ashok Leyland is a trading bet for you as Escort? Ramesh S Damani : Yes sk : But Mcdowell is also langishing around 50/- since last 1 month. Do you feel that there will be a rerun for the stock soon Ramesh S Damani : NOt soon. But it is great value. Remember how PSU stocks were 1 year ago. Triggers develop. I am recomending McDowell for a 2 year period. ritu : Sir, why do Rediff people take so much time (1-2 days) to put the transcription of your chat on their web-site? Afterall it's less than an hours work! If they have that resource crunch, i think i can do it free for them (provided they send me the raw text by mail)! Pls. talk to them abt this! Ramesh S Damani : Thanks, i will ayanshah : Sir Let us all wish Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani Good wishes...( and pray the rumours of his demise, brain dead and other prove wrong) Ramesh S Damani : Yes. Lets pray for a speedy recovery,. kareena : If u dont answer the question, i will tell the CCI bar not to serve u alcohol in the evening Ramesh S Damani : Introduce your self Kareena! sagarr : Dear Rameshji, which is better buy, paper or auto, or bank, name a few scripts Ramesh S Damani : Bilt looks okay in paper and A. Leyland in auto. I own both sk : Sir, Goldiam is a trading call or investment for what period Ramesh S Damani : At the current time trading ticker : RELIANCE PETRO WAS PITCHED TO GO UP AFTER THE DISMANTLING OF APM. BUT IT HAS ONLY GONE FURTHER DOWN FROM THOSE PRICES. DO U FORESEE ANYTHING HAPPENING ON THAT ?. I BOUGHT 1000@28 .. 10th time Ramesh S Damani : REL petro at 50 had a marketcap 25000 crs. That is expensive for a petro stock. What was the rational for buying it bunon : Sir ur view on BHEL, Mc dowell and Onward Ramesh S Damani : BHEL and Mcdowll are ok. Onward is a dark horse. vignesh : Dear sir, any rumour that hdfc bank will take over SBI home finance? please tell me Ramesh S Damani : Not really,. Joy : Rameshji, Alcohol is injurious to health whatever form you take. Stick only to Mcdowell at 40 to 50 range!!!! Ramesh S Damani : Doctors say a glasss of wine a day is good! jas : Ramesh -Hindustan Inks is a market leader, growth story & is cheap. Have you tracked it ? Ramesh S Damani : A friend who follows the co says it is doing well. I don't own it ticker : IT WAS ANALYST LIKE U GUYS WHO HAD RECOMMENDED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE .... Ramesh S Damani : Not on my buy list at least. sk : Sir any of your recommedned stocks u advice for selling as on now - TVSE/BEML should we hold or sell Ramesh S Damani : I would hold them sk : Sir your call on ITC AGRO TECH/ KSB PUMP - i have heard u have started recommending both the stocks Ramesh S Damani : I have not recommended them in particular. vikas : Is there any steam in visualsoft and polaris Ramesh S Damani : Polaris looks good. Visual is behaving well though I am not that optimistic on it, Ahmedabadguy : Sir can I buy some Gati currently. Also do you see profit decrease will reduce dividend this year? Ramesh S Damani : They could but a great value buy. If the economy improves transportation should improve Zeta : Your call on Titan, please Ramesh S Damani : Pricey at current levels. May buy on declines ticker : WOULD U THINK REL PETRO'S SWAP WITH RELIANCE WOULD HELP TO BOOST ITS PRICE FROM CURRENT LEVELS ?. Ramesh S Damani : Petro chemical cycle has turned., However it is not among my picks. ritu : Ramesh, just now u told 'Onward' could be dark horse! Is that Onward Technology and do u find it promising at current rates? Ramesh S Damani : Yes, mainly because CAD/CAM valuations are getting high. Look at Geometric and Rolta jas : Ramesh - also Himatsingka seems a great great value buy. Their foray into velvet should start making returns this fiscal... Volumes in this counter have picked up substantially... Do take a look and let us know your views. Ramesh S Damani : Yes it looks good. I own some. A good value maheshp : Could u recommend 5 stocks for 5 years Ramesh S Damani : E-serve, Mcdowell, COntainer are some ideas to begin with Ahmedabadguy : Rameshbhai, which companies in FMCG sector do you think are good value buys currently and to keep an eye on... Ramesh S Damani : Marico should give great Q1 results. jas : Ramesh -with the dollar showing signs of weakness, does that mean trouble for our exports..and specifically industries that compete on our cost advantage..eg software services ? Ramesh S Damani : I doubt if we appreciate against the dollar. At best, we wont depreciate. I am in favour of a stable Rs. vikas : Do you see e-serve regaining infosys position 1-2 years down the line ? Ramesh S Damani : That is the dream my friend,.! kareena : Ramesh, will u be sozzled today Ramesh S Damani : I drink diet coke. sk : In light of TEA and print development - any stocks u will recommend for buying like midday, tata infomedia Ramesh S Damani : Mcmillan, Tata Tea and Midday should all benifit jas : Ramesh - as a sector story..Indian Pharma seems like a great opportunity for the next decade. Apart from the market leaders, do you have any picks here (dark horses) ? Ramesh S Damani : At this time stick to the market leaders. Cipla and Reddy ayanshah : Sir, what is your view on george williamson asam script? Ramesh S Damani : Fdi in tea/ plantations sk : When will the market take a turn and return to our bull phase - any possibility in 15 days Ramesh S Damani : Decent shot at it. Zeta : What would you prefer to buy Telco OR ashok ley. Ramesh S Damani : I bought A Leyland maria : Rameshji, please make my day by suggesting 2 scrips with decent returns for the short term. Ramesh S Damani : GOldiam looks good trading bet. ritu : Ramesh, I am following yr chats since last six months and i'm already overweight on IT enabled and PSUs. But, somehow these sectors don't seem to be the flavour of the day. Can u suggest a few old economy or commodity picks to rebalance our portfolio? Sometimes this falling Nasdaq and people like Ram Naik (always finding some ways to opposr privatise HP_BP) makes me nervous! Ramesh S Damani : I am really following ITES and PSU. I am not very good sat the old economy. ayanshah : Sir any view on Nirma? A fall from 1500 rs. level to 250 rs. currently? Ramesh S Damani : Should do well in current Qtr sk : IT&T - Alliance has taken a good hold - have u checked it Ramesh S Damani : I think that is correct maheshp : Rameshji 5 picks which i can keep for 5 years Ramesh S Damani : Already answwered ritu : Do u find any sense (even remotest) in Ram Naik's bid to bring public issues for BPCL and HPCL and especially at a substantially discount to the market price, especially when the market was dreaming that these companys would quote at 500 within a year? Ramesh S Damani : No I dont. However events have over taken the process. Ultimately even SBI, DD, Airports Auth will be privatised. khs : Dear sir, your expectations on Geometric Results? Aprox % growth to be anounced on 9th July? Ramesh S Damani : q1 will be slow and margins under pressure due to capex. Q3 & Q4 will be good vikas : E-SERVE is in your views future Infosys ? What price you see in 1 years time , Rs 2000? Ramesh S Damani : That might be too ambitious. Lets hope 1000 raju : Any stocks that you bought in the last week Ramesh S Damani : Mainly mcdowell and Goldiam. king_vi : Sir, what level would mcdowell reach in a year... approx 200-250? Ramesh S Damani : Just buy it because it is good value. Let the market value it. Current results are poor. However at 50 everything is discounted i feel. sagarr : Dear Rameshji,,,i am asking you last time since last 2 weeks, any trading script? If yes,,,,dont have it all alone, bye Ramesh S Damani : I have mentioned Goldiam for a small bet. Ashok Leyaland ayanshah : By the way, who do you think will take home the World CUP? Ramesh S Damani : Germany v/s Brazil. With Germany winning aarthi : PLEASE RANK ESERVE, GEO, KVB & INFOTECH? Ramesh S Damani : 1) E-serve, 2) Geo 3) KVB. I dont own infotech arahaman : Ramesh, football is not your cup of tea. Brazil will be the winner Ramesh S Damani : It is not. However what the hell! Zeta : FOR THE LAST TIME RAMESH, SHOULD I SELL MY TITAN Ramesh S Damani : As an investor, hold it. As a trader, sell it ritu : Brazil last won the world cup in 1994. Before that they won it in 1970. Add 1970 and 1994, it equals 3964. Argentina last won the world cup in 1986. Before that they won it in 1978. Add 1978 and 1986, it equals 3964. Germany last won in 1990. Before that they won in 1974. Add 1990 and 1974, it equals 3964. So going by this logic, the winner of the 2002 world cup is the same as the 3964 - 2002 = 1962 world cup. The 1962 world cup was won by Brazil. Indian fans too have reason to rejoice : India has never won the world cup so we'll probably win it in the year 3964. Ramesh S Damani : Not unless we have a sports minister that has played sports. Thanks all for joining. Have a great week. Thanks and Bye |
