Our leaders have been using these words to blackmail the illiterate populace. Why is it that none of the prime minister wants to contest from urban areas like Delhi, Bombay etc? Where is democracy, when Mr Chandra Shekar contest from a thakur dominated area, or a constituency is picked for a PM, where development is least? Is it not easy to fool the people, if they do not have access to modern education and other resources?

NIRAV:: my solution would be a constitutional reform that eliminates the uncertain election-cycles and instates a periodic election cycle like the US. In this manner, the government would be forced to reconcile its minority and majority forces, without the ever-present cheap solution to call yet another election.

NIRAV::So many people? All that needs to be done is to call an electoral referendum to decide to ammend the constitution. Minorities will agree that it will better serve their interests to have a government system that at allows them a foothold in governmen for a guaranteed amount of time.

Don't you think that will remove some of the corruption, instabilty and evils like casteist politics, frequent elections and blackmail by supporting parties etc. I think that'll also ensure we have some large parties and none of the small and divisive regional or communal parties.
