'The Budget is bad for investors''The market is going up despite the Budget, not because of it. The proposals seemed a bit drab,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.
HappyMan : Ramesh, thank you so much for your valuable insights!! especially in ITenabled. Is TVS Electronics looking good now - or are you still treating it as a trading call? HappyMan : Ramesh you were studying Kale - is it looking a wothy investment now that tech is looking ready for an upswing - Is company dependent on the US for revenues?? Ramesh S Damani : They had a disappointing analyst meet. It seems not ready yet. Maybe in 6-12 months. ritesh : please define what is ITenabled services, what is the difference between IT ENABLED AND SOFTWARE Ramesh S Damani : Software is like windows. It runs programs, billing, payroll. IT Enabled does back office work, payroll "processing", run call centres etc. Labour arbitrage using telecom revolution. pandiya : Can i still enter BPCL&HPCL for short term(4to6months)appreciation? Ramesh S Damani : Yes. I think they look good. I own some. AishwaryaRai : my fans will make money, if they buy MTNL Ramesh S Damani : I am hopeful they will. I bought some too. I had the last week off. priti : Sir, what is your advice for Subex system at current rate? Ramesh S Damani : Looks good. I won some. abcd10 : MR. DAMANI, WILL BUYING TATA FINANCE LTD. AT RS. 27 GIVE DECENT RETURNS ? Ramesh S Damani : I would avoid it. investor : Hello Rameshji, So long time to see after budget, so gow u found that and any special comments Ramesh S Damani : Market is going up despite the Budget. Not because of it. dinky : what do u thnk of the ril-rpl merger? why do u thnk the merger happenend? Ramesh S Damani : To make a Fortune 500 company. To have size for PSU bidding. baracuda : baracuda says dear mr damani nice to finally chat withyu should i sell lic hsg fn at80? Ramesh S Damani : The script is on a roll. Keep it. investor : What points u liked in budget Ramesh S Damani : It's easier to say what I didn't like. ANANDB : HEllo Sir, How are you?Couldnt join in the last 2 weeks.SIr,I own infosys bought at 10000 2yrs ago. With software not looking good so far it is very unlikely that it will reach 10000 in the near future again.Should I sell at a loss and switch to something else that can doublePlease advise.. Ramesh S Damani : 10,000 does look challenging even for Infy. Keep tuned in the chat for new ideas. silverinvestor : sir,now that infosys & wipro are venturing into ITES,will that move be competitive or complementry to rest of ITES share like geometric,e-serve,infotech enter etc. my view is it will be complementry.whats your take? Ramesh S Damani : I agree. It will compliment. It is going to bring attention to the whole sector. Everyone will take notice when Infy announces. asr : what's yr call on the market Mr. Damani for the month of March keeping in mind it's a month of financial closure and many people opt to square off their positions? Should I stay long if have a perspective of 5-6 months? Ramesh S Damani : Yes you should. saj : Mr Damani, Nestle just announced spectacular results...sales growth of 14% in these times... whats your view ? Ramesh S Damani : I like it. However, if they are taking it private what's the point? : Still you think Siemens counter looks Good??You prefer ABB or like both companies and recommend purchase?? Ramesh S Damani : I prefer ABB. asr : Yr trading call on TVS Electronics was fantastic, though it touched a low of 35 (from 44) before rising up again to 65. nfortunately i got out much earlier around 49, however. Can u tell us what strategy one shd adopt to make maximum out of such trading calls? (i mean in such trading calls, which factor works most, information or technicals?) Ramesh S Damani : Thanks. Market works in mysterious ways. No one can predict it. Over the long run, investment is better than trading. Gayathri : sir, waht are the new picks in which you are doing research. can i buy mcdowell at rs.48 Ramesh S Damani : For investment yes. HappyMan : You like any of the companies in oil and gas sector now ?? Ramesh S Damani : HP and BP. harip : Hello Ramesh. How are u doing? What is your latest buy? Ramesh S Damani : Just riding the existing stocks,I added some GATI, to my portfolio. It is a courier/logistics company. It is a safe investment. Not as exciting as tech. saj : They may take Nestle private at a much higher price ? Ramesh S Damani : MNCs are not known to be that generous. pandiya : HIND.TMT&INFOTECH IS IT STILL WORTH ENTER AT THIS LEVEL?PLEASE YOUR DETAILED COMMENT ON THIS. Ramesh S Damani : The IT enabled sector is going to be big. We have just scratched the surface. However individual companies is hard to tell. Buy a diverse basket of these stocks. AishwaryaRai : sir, u still havent told ur views on tata telecom at 158 Ramesh S Damani : I sold mine too early. However, they seem to be in an exciting space. But they are mainly hardware and not software. Techie : Where do you thin IBP would crash upto once the open offer closes ...keeping in mind that all other factors would remain constant ? Ramesh S Damani : It would open around Rs 300 maybe. sur : MR.Damani what is your call on Tips inds Ramesh S Damani : Market is bussing with rumours it will get sold. : Why you prefer Gati then Bluedart .Later is the leader in the sector?? Ramesh S Damani : I own both. Gati around Rs 50 has a market cap of Rs 35 crores .That is too cheap. Last year they paid Rs 4 as dividend. akash : sir, samir arora has invested in HCL Info for Alliance.they too are ITES arena.is it worth investing? Ramesh S Damani : They are. But in HCL tech though. Any more info let me know. Anand K : Sir u Have not Given your view on budget ? Ramesh S Damani : Seemed a bit drab and working like. No great ideas. Bad for investors. wiz : Sir, at what levels do u find cos. like E-serve,Geometric & Hinduja TMT interesting enough to accumulate Ramesh S Damani : These maybe not be the rates to accumate, but you have to have some in your portfolio. : Have you noticed Pantaloon script..may be an answer to Indian Wallmart?? Ramesh S Damani : You are kidding. It's a far cry. wiz : out of these three i.e E-Serve,Geometric & Hinduja TMT,which do think is the best. Ramesh S Damani : I am partial to e-serve. sur : what is your take on compudyne Ramesh S Damani : Accumalate. It could be big. However it requires time. kln : I was reading the round table you guys had last year 15th June.I found Raamdeo's views interesting.Do you also subscribe to the views of Warren Buffet? Ramesh S Damani : It's hard not to. He is a guru for all us financial types. Great thinker. investor : SIR IN PAST YOU HAVE ALWAYS RECOMMENDED BEML/BEL - DO U FEEL AT CURRENT RATES THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE OR ONE SHOULD WAIT - IF NOT ENTERED AT THAT TIME Ramesh S Damani : They have had a good run. The kicker would be a potential divestment. AishwaryaRai : sir most of the stocks u mention are small cap, is there a method in this approach Ramesh S Damani : The big boys research the large caps. Small caps do become big caps. Infy was at a market cap of Rs 30 crores to Rs 65,000 crores in 8 years. Anand K : Sir As you closely track E.serve What EPS do you expect from it, for the year ending 31stMarch 2003 Ramesh S Damani : Turnover should be Rs 300 crores plus. Profit could be around Rs 25-30 crores. investor : BUT DISINVESTMENT IN BEML AND BEL WILL TAKE 2-3 YEARS AND CONCOR TOO - BUT DO YOU FEEL THEY MAY GIVE DECENT RETURNS IN 3 MONTHS TIME Ramesh S Damani : I am looking at a 2-3 year picture. wiz : Apart frm. I.T.Enabled & Disinvestment stories any other 'event'/'area' u are looking at,Sir. Ramesh S Damani : In bull markets, best performance comes from market leaders. In this market, leaders are IT-enabled, two-wheelers and PSUs. AishwaryaRai : sir, in that case tell me, ur biggest bet - the small cap today, u are most bullish on - lets say upto 200 cr mkt cap Ramesh S Damani : Gati looks a good idea over 2-3 years. Current m-cap is Rs 42 crores. kln : The markets are behaving as though the Gujrat madness did not happen. Why is that so? Ramesh S Damani : That is how bull markets are. They climb a wall of worry. smallinvestor : Rameshji, what is ur call on BPCL ONDC and SBI Ramesh S Damani : I like SBI a lot and BPCL. I dont think ONGC will give a dividend or be privatised. investor : SCI DIVESTMENT IS NEAR - AT WHAT PRICE IT WILL BE - YOUR TAKE Ramesh S Damani : Around Rs 75-85. AK47 : Should we expect Good result from Infosys for this quarter (ending March) compare to last quarter.......With positive guidelines for the coming year? Ramesh S Damani : It's hard to see greater than 20 per cent growth. However, watch for any BPO announcements. smallinvestor : sir, once u recommended wyeth, what is the status now? Ramesh S Damani : I sold it recently. However, the company should do well over 1-2 years. Atmaram : Prof RameshSir why has Bharat Electronics declined after increase in Defence Budget to 65000 crores inspite of Bharat Electronics being Monopoly co in Defence sector want detailed reply Professor?' Ramesh S Damani : Markets have strange ways. Hold on. ACC went to 100 before going to 10,000 akash : i was bit worried when geometric plunged to 338 post budget. but still added some more @ 340.i am adding more & more at every plunge.whats your take on this strategy? Ramesh S Damani : I remain bullish and invested in it. ABCDE : SIR, ANY DARK HORSES IN THE CURRENT MARKET ON A ONE-YEAR TIME FRAME ? Ramesh S Damani : Take a good look at SBI. It is the ultimate PSU. Thanks all for joining. See you next week. Bye. asr : I bought some Hinduja TMT around 76 and still holding it. Do u suggest me to book profits atleast partially? Ramesh S Damani : Why not? That is good. |
