The Harsha Bhogle ChatHarsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:18 IST)SAX: NO I AM NOT. I AM NOT SURE I WOULD ENJOY IT EITHER. AGRAHARA: NO NOT FOR THE MOMENT. arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:18 IST) Raj>> Prem isn't in today. Rajitha is running the show. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:19 IST) ANSWER ME: NO, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, NO. I PLAYED ENOUGH CRICKET TO ENJOY IT AND I THINK BEING A COMMENTATOR AND JOURNALIST IS AS MUCH FUN. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:20 IST) PALLU : IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR OPINION AND MINE IS. THERE IS ONLY OPINION THAT COUNTS AND IT IS OF THE UMPIRE IN THE MIDDLE. NOBODY HAS CALLED CHAUHAN YET AND IF THAT IS THE CASE, HE SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR SELECTION. sax (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:21 IST) Harsha-one for the road- give us your (current) World XI. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:21 IST) NIZAR: CAN IT? Agrahara (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:21 IST) Harsha, Do u think cricketers in India ought to be better paid? Considering the hard work that goes in and the responsibilities that they sport on their shoulders, I think the financial reimbursements that they get is pittance. And I am not talking of the test level only!! rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:22 IST) harsha>> Seems to u are also a great fan of "holy cow"- I mean Jadeja. His postion in the team is not clear. Since he is currently in as a frontline batsman and doesn;t have the talent of batting against good attacks, better play a batsman. And regarding his much-hyped hitting abilities, it comes a cropper in cruch times when we are chasing totals, as proven in the last ODI against Pak and the crucial ODI against WI. Regarding Fifth bowler- Robin, Gangs,Tendy, sarath can easily do the job provided sachin is sensible to use all of them instead of overbowling himself. Any comments?? Journalist (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:22 IST) So Harsha, GIVE US AN INSIDE VIEW ABOUT THE MONEY THAT CHANGES HANDS IN THE CRICKET ARENA TODAY!!!!!!!PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:23 IST) Harsha>> but isn't it sad that without the quota system, we wouldn't have had ganguly and but for Raman's foot injury, we would not have seen Robin? Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:23 IST) SAX: WOULD LOVE TO BUT AFTER THINKING A LITTLE MORE ABOUT IT. WE WOULD LIKE TO BE A DIFFERENT BREED OF SELECTORS WOULDN'T WE? Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:25 IST) JOURNALIST : I'M AFRAID I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY. I LOVE THE CRICKET THAT IS PLAYED IN THE OPEN. MY JOB BEGINS AND ENDS THERE. I DON'T SNOOP AROUND EITHER. rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:25 IST) Agrahara>> Nice joke pal:-) Given their performances, I feel they are "overpaid"! arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:25 IST) Raj>> You have forgotton Jadeja's full name on RSC!! How can you forget - it is FlukeMaster HolyCow. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:26 IST) RAJG: JUST CAST YOUR MIND BACK TO THE NUMBER OF MATCHES JADEJA HAS WON IN RECENT TIMES; OR AT LEAST MADE THE CRITICAL CONTRIBUTION. THE QUARTER FINAL IN BANGALORE; THE FINAL OF THE TITAN CUP IN MUMBAI; THE AMARNATH BENEFIT ONE-DAYER IN MUMBAI ETC...... Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:28 IST) AGRAHARA: I BELIEVE THEY ARE PAID AS WELL AS THEY SHOULD. IT ALLOWS THEM A VERY GOOD LIFESTYLE AND ALLOWS THEM TO PLA N A FUTURE. I THINK WE HAVE GOT IT RIGHT. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THOUGH IS A SLIGHTLY SMALLER BASE AMOUNT AND A MUCH HIGHER PERFORMANCE LINKED BONUS. rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:28 IST) folks>> why do we keep harping on Gavaskar,Mohinder,Kapil for all purposes? Aren't there other players who can do a decent job. Remember what Yashpal lashed out recently? Any comments about that Harsha?? Prasad (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:29 IST) Do you agree that Gavaskar was best ever captain of indian cricket team? And do you feel that a concept of non-playing captain as in Tennis may be introduced in cricket and Gavaskar be made non-playing captain of Indian Team? arora (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:29 IST) Hey guys, what's happening. Are we firing the indian team?? Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:30 IST) PRASAD: IN ITS CONCEPTION, THE JOB OF A COACH( HE USED TO BE CALLED CRICKET MANAGER) WAS MEANT TO BE THAT. THE IDEAL COACH / NON-PLAYING CAPTAIN WOULD BE ONE WHO MAKES HIS POINT ANDWITHDRAWS. CLIVE LLOYD DOES THAT VERY WELL arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:31 IST) Harsha>. Frankly, i feel you ought to get into newsgroups. This topic has been discussed threadbare with complete statistics - useless in chases. Tell me frankly, but for that QF match, Jadeja wouldn't have had support. Let me put it this way. Exchange one of his poor scores with his QF performance. Assume we lost the QF but we won the other match thanks to Jadeja. Also if all his other performances remained the same, do you think he would have made it to the indian team? i don't think so. Agrahara (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:31 IST) Rajg: How many times have u failed in ur life and in what u do? Its a part of life buddy! that does not mean that u did not work hard enough!! arora (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:31 IST) Gavaskar is a businessman now, and not a cricketer. He is minting money out of his past attachment with the sport. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:32 IST) RAJG: I BELIEVE THE SEARCH IS CONTINUOUS. WE'VE TRIED SANDEEP PATIL AND MADAN LAL (HE HAS A CONTRACT APPARENTLY TILL AUGUST 31). THE OTHER NAMES DOING THE ROUNDS ARE ANSHUMAN GAEKWAD, BRIJESH PATEL AND SRIKKANTH. BUT I AM CONVINCED THAT RAVI SHASTRI IS THE RIGHT MAN. HE IS CONTEMPORARY ENOUGH, RUTHLESS AND CEREBRAL. rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:34 IST) harsha>> Oh! I am fed up of hearing this "Bangalore exploit" of Holy cow! That 10 minutes, which I had incidentally seen on the ground, has earned him a Life membership in the team! For every one match he contributes he fails in the next five matches. Moreover his ability to contribute in chasing is poor. And he is pathetic against good attacks. The Knock in the Mohinder game was against a very Dejected Proteans (who had lost the Titan cup) and mostly scored in an over against Adams. Harsha> Ah! I liked that one about the "smaller base amount"; very true indeed. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:34 IST) ARVIND: I AM NOT CAMPAIGNING FOR ANYBODY. ANYBODY WHO BATS AT NUMBER SIX IN A DECENT BATTING SIDE CANNOT GET TOO MANY OPPORTUNITIES. HE RUNS THE RISK OF BECOMING A SLOGGER AND CANNOT, ALMOST BY DEFINITION, BE CONSISTENT. THAT IS ONE THE REASONS INDIA HAVE ASKED JADEJA TO BAT AT NO.5. THEY ARE HOPING HE GETS A LONGER PERIOD IN THE MIDDLE. Agrahara (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:35 IST) Harsha: I do not think that applies to the hierarchically lower level players such as Harpinder singh.... (ones who play at Ranji level). It was astonishing to hear from few of such players as to how they are treated when these guys go for out of town matches. venkat (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:36 IST) Hey, I think Jadeja is a fighter and that is what we want, not guys like Shasthri and Kambli, Mongiya who have a record for not playing for their team. arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:37 IST) Harsha>> Do you support Shastri because he happens to be your fellow commentator :-) I once remember Gavaskar and Shastri being asked to pick the indian 16 for the English tour. Gavaskar gave a team based on performance in international as well as domestic matches. Shastri reeled out the Mumbai team (well, most of it at least) Swetha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:37 IST) Hi everyone.... Journalist (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:40 IST) Hi Swetha Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:40 IST) SWETHA: HI. I THINK YOU CAUGHT THE TAILEND OF THIS CHAT. I'VE GOT ANOTHER COUPLE OF MINUTES.....SO IF THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE .... arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:41 IST) I never heard about Brijesh Patel. Could you give some more info. Gaekwad is the U-19 manager. Srikkanth, the india-A manager. So where did you hear of Brijesh Patel? Really curious. rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:41 IST) prasad>>what arora said is perfectly true. Sunny is more attached to "green bills" than anything else. Regarding his captaincy, he was one of the worst regionalists and a "drawMaster" to boot. (sorry to offend any of his fans here.) Agrahara>> One need not worry about the monetary benefits of our Heroes!. they have all those "soft-drink" and "liquor contracts" to advertise; Not to forget their "manager" stints in Banks and county assignments; then generous donations from wealthy Indians for their rare good performance. Harsha (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:44 IST) BYE EVERYONE. SEE YOU ANOTHER DAY. arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:44 IST) Just a couple of minutes? Okay please pass on this message to the indian team - "PLEASE WIN and be the first team to plan a 50 over assault and pile up 400+ in ODIs!" sax (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:44 IST) Harsha- ciao! Keep flashing those pearly whites, bud! tp (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:45 IST) Harsha, I think there is no shortage of skills in India. So many times they played so well that they looks unbeatable. I think India needs right kind of attitude. And also there is no shortage of money. What do you think? venkat (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:45 IST) I think we need a full time trainer to get the fat off our players and to increase everybody's upper body strength. arm strength like Sri Lanka has. rajg (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:47 IST) harsha>> I am not so sold on the idea of "StoneWall Jackson" Shastri as a Manager. He is not anybody's idea of a "team player" , whatever may be his cricketing acumen. The memories of his selfish play still haunts us. The Worldcup fiasco were he sucked-- hmm! arvind (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:48 IST) RAJITHA - You could have warned us that only 5 minutes were left. Now we don't know if Harsha saw our last messages. Agrahara (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:50 IST) rajg: u seem to be doing good representing Harsha. Keep it up pal and who knows one day.. Harsha has his own PMG and guess who his PR prime would be!! Journalist (Mon Jun 2 1997 21:51 IST) HEY LETS ALL GO TO THE SMALL SKOKE FILLED CAFE MOHAN (Mon Jun 2 1997 22:0 IST) WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THE CAPTAIN HAS NO SAY IN THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS, DO YOU THINK IT IS FAIR TO BLAME HIM FOR AZHAR BEING DROPPED? MOHAN (Mon Jun 2 1997 22:5 IST) OH HO I MISSED THE BOAT!!! Vaibhav (Mon Jun 2 1997 22:7 IST) Harsha>> MOHAN (Mon Jun 2 1997 22:31 IST) OH HO I MISSED THE BOAT!!!
