Security at oil sector installations beefed up

With the war like situation prevailing at the Indo-Pak border, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Ram Naik on Tuesday assured that India has "sufficient" strategic oil reserves, adding security at its multi-billion oil sector installations has been beefed up.

"Supply of oil and fuel is very important in war not only for vehicles but also for automatic weapons. We have enough supplies to go on. Our strategic oil reserves are sufficient to help us at such times," Naik told reporters in Mumbai.

Naik said a special 24-hour constant vigil is being kept by Central Security Force on all oil sector installations like aviation turbine fuel refuelling station used by the Indian Air Force.

He said India's sole exploration and production company, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation had a separate arrangement with the defence forces due to the strategic locations of its several offshore oil wells and rigs.

"The CSF has taken suitable steps. The oil wells are spread from Kutch to Kerala and have a significant presence in Krishna-Godavari-Kaveri basin on the eastern coast," he added.
