'We will meet the fiscal targets set by us'Omar Abdullah We had not asked for any special package for Kashmir in the Budget. A lot of work has been done for the state by my ministry, and a package of incentives for industry in J&K is being worked out. The SSI sector will survive, but it is unfair to the industries to face competition from imports coming from countries that have no reservations for small-scale industries. Mr Sinha has not been nice to all. In fact there are some who say he has not been nice to anyone. A lot of effort has gone into balancing the sums and we will meet the fiscal targets set by us as we have done in the 2000-2001 Budget. The surcharge on individual income tax will now only be the 2 per cent Gujarat surcharge. The government is keen to address all the infrastructure concerns, and bandwidth is, of course, one of them. We will be seeing significant progress in this direction in the year to come. Omar Abdullah is Union minister of state for commerce and industry |
